Invisible Fence...  email this discussion to a friend?

This apparently didn't actually post to the interest because of the problems the site was going through, so I'll try again...

Does anyone use or know someone who has an "Invisible Fence" for their dog?

I just want to say, though it's a convenient little tool, it's cruel. My parents got one for their dog and when she first crossed that line and was zapped, I think that is one of the most horrible sounds I've ever heard! She was terrified and, clearly, in pain.

Though now, a month or so later, she has gotten the hang of it. She can run around the yard on her own and she knows where not to go. She chased off some deer one day and stopped at the end of the yard. The little beeping before being zapped reminds her where she can't go, yet it still seems only a beep or two away from a painful experience. I wish there was at least a couple feet from the line before the pain came...

So I'm just wondering, anyone else one? Have you considered it?

A friend of mine uses it for her dog. It has worked well and if you consider the pain of being hit by a car or getting lost and injured or attacked than it is probably a minor pain and not really that cruel.

Of course if you're a neglectful owner, getting hit by a car or attacked by another animal is a possibility. But that's not what I'm talking about. I think this is just a lazy way to own a dog; not wanting to take the dog out, but rather letting the dog out to run around the yard on its own. I'm not saying I don't understand, but then it should be a requirement to get shocked yourself before doing it to a much smaller animal. I told this to my parents, neither one offered to do it! lol

Thanks for the reply!
