Actually I read a few of the comments and if they really are making a car that cheap and it will go over a moutain I really don't care if anyone looks at it in town, it could welll be the option for this new stupid new law we're getting about having to scrap perfectly road worthy cars when they hit their 10th birthday. If we were allowed to use the vouchers towards them that is.

I wonder how they will go in INDIA, thats where they are from.

All those pot hole roads out of town, I'm sure the doors would fall off fast.

Hi Hiccup,
Though it makes me proud to be an Indian and have the world’s cheapest car roll out from here, let me be frank enough and say that yes, I have my own apprehensions too.
Ratan Tata’s intentions are definitely good in that he wants even the Indian middle class to be able to afford their own car and at this price range, the nano is definitely a bargain for the very average income middle-class. However, roadworthiness apart (I don’t doubt Tata quality and expertise), the nano on road is definitely more trouble for the already chaotic situation on Indian roads. Bad roads, inept traffic management, irresponsible drivers, reckless youngsters …and so many do not actually paint a very rosy picture. And if you take the fuel & emission into account…I think more and more people should be encouraged or even forced to use environment friendly public transport rather than try and equalize all the classes of society by bringing out a very affordable car!

If the Governments spent more money on better Public Transports, then less money would be needed for all these so said needed highways/tollways/freeways.

The onlt reason people use these roads as there is little Pubic Transport or the Public Transport is very bad. Or plain is not there.

This are so expensive in the USA, i bet by the time it gets here, it will be doubled or tripled in price.

If they're made in India then doesn't that mean it was cheaper to make and won't be as expensive as when the US or whatever country you are in manufactures them?

Not necessarily. When things hit the USA, the price goes up. When it hits the car dealerships, the price triples, then add any financing, and you are back up to the cost of a small usa automobile or vehicle. That is just the way it is.

Governments will not talk about it but what happens is that they place TARIF'S on the product, so said to protect the local Industry.

The big Boys like that,(as it makes money for them) but us down the lower end of the Peking order are hit hard in the pocket every time.

Different countries have different importation standards that they apply to foreign cars being brought in for the first time for sale..Examples of the cars get tested to see if they comply with standards before they can be legally imported or sold..I think it was on the "Who killed the Electric Car" DVD that I saw perfectly good cars that hadn't met the US import standards that were shown,lined up to be crushed... The SMART car,though in it's original form met or beat Euro Standards,had to be changed to meet US criteria..the Tata will probably need the same,so will be more expensive once it gets to Market as a result..

They Are In All Four Wheel Variants I Guess .. Nano Is A Real Cheap Car From The Tata Stable .. It is Just Launched On Indian Roads ..

Be good for in town run about, where the roads are good.

I use to drive a lot but when petrol (Gas) went up I went to public transport.

From $150 a week to $20 in fuel costs, I don't think I will be driving Miss Daisy, Just put her on the train/bus far cheaper.
