are there frequent power failures/blackouts in your place?

Yes, there are times that electricity is off due to some problems, usually caused by natural calamities such as typhoons, lightnings, earthquakes, and some other calamities. There are also times that we have blackouts or brownouts due to man made calamities that destroys the electric posts or cables.

None so far. I think for almost a year now.

We only get that problem if there is a bad storm and that is when we lose the electric.Then we all sit around for only a few hours as then they seem to sort out the problem.Last year i was without electric for a whole day and that was horrid as we had nothing to do all day.

Paralysis of electricity is really a terribe new for people living in this mordern times. Things like computer, bridge, wahsing machine are all in need of electricity. In China, thanks for the superb infrastructure facilities, I seldom suffer from a breakdown in electricity, but I always hear of the news that the places locating in the western of China have deprived of electricity for some days. So it relates to the local governments which is up to the unhold the rights of individual citizens.

I am currently staying in Malaysia and I seldom encounter blackouts here,I guess less than 5 times for a year.
But back at my hometown in Indonesia, I always encounter blackouts now and then.It can takes up for almost half a day or throughout the whole night.
It is not really a big issue and we have get used to it.
So my parents gets standby a big generator at home,so anytime there is a blackout,the generator will run automatically by itself.

Last time when I was small, we only own a small generator and the power is only enough to on the lights and TV and refrigerator.No aircon at all and it does not work automatically and it also have a loud sound from the generator.

Last two years,there is a new type of big generator which will work automatically and it has the big power,enough for all the aircon to be on plus lights.
It is more convenience nowadays with this big generator at home.Somemore,it does have a loud sound from the generator.

Blackouts this time of year were experienced mostly during Sundays and it's been two Sundays in a month. These blackouts were scheduled due to major repairs.
But there were times when power was off in the middle of the night or when I was staring at the computer because it was raining hard and very windy.
And thankfully this week only one power cut was experienced but only for a few minutes when it was raining during the night non-stop. But then it was annoying because it was the time to check if there were leaks and water rising in the yard and there was no light.

Hi nonstopthinker, We don't experience power failure very often at all. Usually it's only during a heavy storm and not always then. I can understand how it would be very frustrating if it was happening often. I hope that things will improve for you soon. Blessings.

Hi, we experienced that in our place last month when protests sprouted against a proposed coal-powered plant in a southern city here. there were scheduled power interruptions and a rotation of brown-outs in the main metropolis for about a month. some of observers said that the rotation of power failure was intentional and aimed at telling the public that our place needs more power supply and that the message was--we really need the coal-fired plant badly. I'm not really sure but at one time I was almost convinced by this notion. hmm..protests have been launched by environmental groups against the proposed power plant because coal ash emissions are hazardous, not only to the environment, but to our health. Presently, the issue is hounding the local residents of the concerned city and local officials there insist that the plant is really beneficial to them. Thanks for taking this up. Well I am from India, and even though my entire state is reeling under a power cut, my city is an exception, because it is a state capital. Even though we have power cuts, it is not very regular and long. Usually the power comes back within a hour. Whereas in the rest of my state, the power cut is quite long and sometimes it goes up to more than 6 to 7 hours.

Hello, that's nothing new in our place. We have scheduled powercuts, & unannounced failures. We in kerala depend on rains for electricity, still the rains r the enemy too. These days we can't do anything without electricity.
