Rain Checks

i don't know the "rain checks" also, when i were asked of a thing that i don't have knowledge about,i will consult directly,and i can remember it,i will know nexr time .

i usually ask somebody that's been there longer.
some places you have to be careful before you answer them or they may get irate,so it's a good idea to get a higher up.

Two things, I might pretend I know depending on the circumstances or I will say, sorry, I don't think I know that. I will ask someone who knows, be right back LOL

So did you give the customer a rain check?

I hope supermarkets here will give rain checks too, that is a good idea. But I'm sure, the expiration date may not be long because prices are running wild each day.

When in doubt...fake it. That's what I do, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.
Years ago I was a cashier in a department store. One day I was asked to cover a lunch break in the hardware department. I knew NOTHING about hardware. While covering, a man asked if we sold snakes. I told him to check the pet department.
When the hardware person came back from lunch and I told him about the incident, I though he'd fall on the floor laughing. How was I supposed to know that a 'snake' was a gizmo that is used to unclog drains? LOL

I'm glad you found out what a raincheck is!! I might need one someday on a good sale!!
When I don't know what something is, I do what you did, I go to someone I know that I can get a good answer from that will be patient and not laugh at me.
Next time you will know and maybe you will be the one to explain it to another worker.

This is really a new word for which, meaninig of which i didn't know.But by reading your entire discussion, got to know menaing of rain check. In one of your comment you have written meaning of rain check. It is very helpful to me.Your type of discussions are really helpful for person like me to increase word power.
Whenever i face new word, i generally ask perso who is near to me about it. There are many times happend that someone don't aware about that word.So dont get confused simply ask anyone meaning of that word. This is my key.

I used to work on a reception desk and I used to deal with the public on a daily basis either in person or on the phone and I used get asked so many things that I das no clue about but the idea was to look as professional as possible while trying to find out the answer. I found that honestly saying to the customer, “I don’t know, but I will find out for you” was the most effective way of dealing with questions that were just a tad too hard. I knew what a ‘rain check’ because they are common practice in the stores in Australia.

If someone ask me something I did not know because I was new I would just time then I did not know. I would try to get an answer for the customer by asking an employee that has been there longer and hopeful they will have the answer for the customer.
