When I was younger I wanted to be a school teacher. I have four younger siblings and during the summer we would play "school" and I loved pretending to teach them things. By my 10th grade year I was sick of school and decided against becoming a teacher. I also thought of being a lawyer because I loved to argue, especially when I knew I was right about something. For either job there seemed to be a lot of schooling involved and I just wasn't into school. I didn't mind the work, I just didn't like the people. Now I work in a doctors office and I make decent money. I still think about what I wanted to be and even still consider going back to school because I'm still young, but I doubt that will happen.

I had no idea of pursuing any career maxima because we were brought up with the firm conviction that career is not for women and that we would be homemakers. But strangely I had an extremely successful career as a freelance teacher.Stranger still is the fact what my friend told me once. We used to play together when we were very young [less than 10] and she reminded me later after I chose a successful freelance career path for myself, how I used to keep on teaching all my friends as though I were a teacher in front of a blackboard. She remarked" you showed these signs even when you were in 5th standard and sixth standard Kala".And of course I studied up to my 22nd year when I finished my M.A. IN lITERATURE.

I remember well, as a youngster, and well into my teens, all I wanted to be was an architect. Unfortunately, in those days, and with strict Catholic parents, there was only one place in my State where this was possible, and that was too far from my home, so I couldn't fullfil my dream.

I was too young then to think of what I want or which profession should I pursue. Even when I was in college, I'm still confused which path to take. It was 2 years after I got my diploma when I decided that I want to become a Business development or organizational development consultant which is the reason why I am currently enrolled in post graduate class. =)

Actually I knew a year or 2 before that. I wanted to become a veterinarian. I never got to pursue it though. However, I did work with animals for a short while a few years later. Happy mylotting!

Hi friend, When I was 14 years old I changed posible careers about once a week. At one time I seriously wanted to become a doctor, but my best friend would not acompany me to the last year of school (then they separated us in different class groups by interests: Humanities, Science and Mathematics). So I went to Humanities. Then I fell in love and I only wanted to get married but my parents wouldn´t let me. I finished highschool at 16 and as I wasn´t interested in anything but my bf, I tossed a coin with the 2 shortest careers they had. I studied then to be a Librarian and my best friend studied the same thing. I got married as soon as my parents let me (at 18) and finished my first career between babies. Then I worked for a while as a Librarian but I didn´t like it. When the children were older I asked myself again, and this time seriously, what did I want to be "when I grew up". My thing were books and writing so I started to study Literature. That was just what I was looking for. I finished suma c um laude, did some post graduate studies, attended the best workshop for writers here and started to write. Later I was a professor at a University for some years. Now I cook, cuddle and play with my computer.

Hi Maximax, When I was about that age I wanted to be a Cardiologist, yes, not just any doctor but a Cardiologist - this was because my brother had an open-heart surgery when he was about 15yrs old due to heart failure. I've been a witness to his sufferings because of this illness and so I wanted to be one that treats this disease. But it didn't happen, I finished a degree in Psychology instead. I was in school up to 21 years of age.

Your career sounds very interesing, Baluyadav. My whole family is Science oriented and I´m the only book worm. My brother is a Chemist and he has studied aphids in corn and why some corn have it and some don´t. It´s a very simplistic way of explaining, but I´m sure you understand what I mean. Take care

I came to realize the career that I really wanted when I was 16. We had a programming subject and I loved it a lot. That was when I started feeling and having the passion to do it. I enjoy solving problems and converting requirments into the language understood by the computer to aid users. So now, I am 25, I got the career that I dreamt at my early years.

I think when I was 41, I would know which I career I wanted to do. Or maybe not too. When I was 14, I only know I need to study and study hard to get good results to keep my bursary. I came out to work and study part time after graduating from high school. Grabbing any job that comes by is difficult, not to mention going for a career.

Oh yes! I wanted to be a singer for years and years and years, even before I was 14. Yes, I did a lot of studying after age 18. I majored in music when I was in college. I even made a record one time. It didn't get popular, though. I have also auditioned for jobs at places like Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee and Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia. It's very hard to get a break in the music business. Just because you don't make it doesn't mean that you're not good. There are people out there trying to make it in the music business all the time. We just don't realize it, though. I still sing every chance I get and I still play the guitar, piano, and the harmonica. I sing at one nursing home and one assisted living facility every month. I also sing in the Messiah every year around christmastime. As a matter of fact, I'm going to be singing and playing the guitar in downtown Jasper this coming Saturday at Heritage Day. I plan to do a discussion about this later on. I have even sung on television a few times. I just decided not to make a career out of it after all. It's just not the life for a christian, for one thing. That was a pretty tough decision for me to make because I wanted to do it for so long. Kathy.
