Do you think school should be year around?

i do but i know our schools here in canada are not equiped for our hot summer (central air is being put in the new schools that are being built but not in the old ones).
my kids are off for 8-9 weeks every summer and its an awfully long time for them to be off. they get so bored!

As far as time off, I think year round school would help the tourist attractions as long as they don't all give everybody the same weeks off. When my kids were on year round, we got to take them to Disneyworld at the end of February/beginning of March when it wasn't crowded or hot, which was great!

I have mixed feelings about it otherwise, I guess. I have nostalgic feelings for my own summer vacations when I was a kid. On the other hand, it's really good for my son who has autism not to have such a long break.

My only big problem with it would be if my children all ended up on different tracks. That would be a nightmare!

I'm homeschooling, so as far as I'm concerned, school is year round, lol. I look at the traveling bit differently. Homeschooling enables us to travel during the shoulder season, which is a great time - a place can still offer its peak season benefits at a cheaper rate...

Personally, I don't want that studying will last longer than it is already have. Children needs to be children too. Not just studies, studies and more studies. Being a child is one thing you cannot reverse in the future. Studying can come on whatever age brackets, sometimes we can postpone it, but being a child once is a once in a lifetime experience.

No, I really don't think that school should be year round. There are a lot of reasons that I feel this way. First of all, when I was a child I was able to learn a lot more during the summer than I ever did while I was at school because that was when I was able to get my practical education. It gave me the opportunity to really explore the things that I enjoy. Another reason that I don't think school should be year round is that even though the schools have air conditioners in them, it gets hot in those buildings during the warmer months of the year. Finally, as much as I'd love to have the opportunity to travel when not everyone else was travelling, I feel like the longer into the summer that the schools extend the school year, the more wasted days off that the children have while school is in session.

I do think that education is important. But I also think that its not everything. We should also spend time with family and have fun. Having school or classes all year round will somehow take away the opportunity to be with the family and have bonding. Besides as they say, all work and no play is not really that good. Same with all study and no relaxation is also not advisable.
