I can remember some games back in the 60s and 70s that made a lot of the current games appear quite tame. If you can find any film of it somewhere check out Glasgow Celtic against Atletico Madrid in 1974 when Atletico had only eight players were left on the pitch at the end, after three were sent off.

There are plenty of examples from Italy (ever see Claudio Gentile in action?) and the top flight of English football (dig up some pictures of Norman Hunter or Peter Storey going in for man, and occasionally ball).

And then there were some notorious examples from Latin America.

I have myself being living in Germany for the last few years, and really bad fouls are comparatively rare - and you will hear about it all over Europe (given media interest) if one really notorious example occurs.

i think you didnt watch soccer so much? soccer is always like tat, playing violently, cheating,diving,breaking people legs. its common.

Hm.. sometimes hard tackle had to be made in match friends especially if your opponents was tough. It just one of many way to stop them. The player like Messi or CR often get tackled hard by their opponents.
