The festival of light ... |
|
It is one of the most awaited festivals of all time in India. It is called Deepavali and is being celebrated on 17th october this year.
History: Diwali also celebrates the return of Rama, King of Ayodhya, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya after a 14 year exile, and a war in which he killed Ravana. It is believed that the people of Ayodhya lit ghee lamps along the way to light their path in the darkness.
Celebration: The day starts off with everyone buying crackers in the morning and house is completely cleaned and decorated for festival. In the afternoon children are busy drying their crackers in the sun for better performance while the elders are busy in making special dishes and sweets for night. In the evening pooja (prayers) are performed to Lakshmi Devi (goddess of Wealth). And after that people gather at friend's and relative's house and burn the crackers together. This continues till late in night. And finally they have dinner together and leave back home satisfied and contented with the way have celebrated the festival better than last year..

4. bewitched13 (285) | 1 month ago | Hi Shames, Wish you a belated Happy Diwali. This festival is also celebrated on the defeating and killing Narakasura. So it is also called Naraka Chathurthi. In Kerala people pray and offer offerings to their ancestors on the Diwali day. In Gujrat it is the begining of the New Year from the Diwali. In West Bengal it is celebrated as Kali Puja. The business class start their new accounts from the Diwali day after the Lakshmi puja. Share traders have a special muhurat in the evening and buy some shares and stocks on this auspicious day and time. So in spite of the diversities Diwali is the festival celebrated by one and all with full gaiety in India.
Happy mylotting.

Shames (1310) | 1 month ago | Well it is a holiday. But it is only for one day.And as I have mentioned in one of my discussions earlier that it takes me around 15 hours by train to reach there..So no question of going back home there. However those who live near by did go back home..

| 6. koundinya3 (37) | 1 month ago | Hii Shames... thats a good explanation abt the festival of light diwali. anyways i am gonna share my experience of diwali at my college. we have a competition called Illumination and rangoli in which all the guyz in our hostel work together to participate in lighting up diyas in a innovative way and then we do the rangoli (much better than the girls) at the end we get rasagullah s from the vice president of our college... contrary to my previous experiences of lighting up crackers this was really exciting and caused much lesser pollution..

Shames (1310) | 1 month ago | Hi koundinya.Well I wanted to explain it as well but then I thought it was more appropriate to describe the way we have been celebrating traditionally.Nice narration by the way about the illumination and rangoli.Anyways thanks for your response and have a nice day..
