Would you let your child watch a scary movie?

My oldest son likes to watch certain scary movies, and as long as he is ok with them, so I am . My younger son tries to senak and watch them and ends up with nightmares, so I try to keep him from watching them. My mom always watched scary movies when I was young and I would be scared to death!

hello tukersheri. I agree with you partly here.
It is good that you keep an eye on your child about what is he watching.
But not allowing a kid watching scary movies makes his mind filled fear as he does'nt know whats going on these types of movies. This will be mark in his mind permanently and even he grown up he won't like to go scary movies.
Instead make him to watch such movies along with you guiding him at every point that these are all fakes and ghosts never exists
Let ur child face the truth!

Yes, I agree with your apprehensions, it is not really advisable for children to watch horror or scary movies for the same reasons you cited. In many cases, some children avoid watching them too and they are terribly scared as well. My granddaughter will stop watching TV at a sight of a strange looking creature even though it's not really scary.

That's why parental guidance is advised.

Even I get scared watching these kind of movies then how can I get the child to be addicted to such movies and then be afraid of things at night and in future too.
I too as a kid used to watch these movies and later get afraid of even small things, I dont want the same to happen to anyone.

My younger brother love scary movies/dramas and he's only seven. The problem is, he will be angry if we switch channel. I don't know whether that's a bad thing as he become braver and sleep alone in the room now. I think it's okay for him to watch such stories as long as they're not too gruesome and carry bad messages like it's okay to kill and such. Parental guidance is important and not to let him watch alone.

To me it depends. When i was younger I watch freddy and chucky. I grew to love all the freddy movies. I was scared to death of chucky. I think it might have been, because I played with dolls and that's why I was so afraid. I'm not really sure why I was. Sometimes it depends on the kids. Some get scared easy and some don't. Also sometimes they could be scared of one thing and not the other.

yes ive let my children watch scary movies my children go to school with other children that tell them alot of stuff and we just cant keep a eye on them 24 hours a day but when they do watch the movie im right there with them explaining to them whats going on and that its not real thats not to say i let them watch every scary movie but some are ok

no, not if he was under the age of 16, i know kids do like to watch horror movies b ut if i had anything to do with it, i wouldn't allow it....i cannot keep my eye on my kids 24/7 so it's obvious that they have watched horror movies when they were younger but if i had a child who was younger than 16, i would not allow it....my kids are men now so it's not a problem, i can't really stop them now can i....

I would not let my child watch a scary movie because it could make my child to feel bad and my child could get bad dreams and it could also effect my child's mental growth.

I would really depend on what it is. if it was a disney movie I would let her see it. If it had something to do with csi or ncis or something like that I'd let her watch it. I've been watching stuff like that since she was born and she understands that the movies are not really what happened in real life. I probably wouldn't let her watch h2o or halloween or freddy crouger movies but that's just me.
