The Chinese will eat almost everything.... |
|
'The Chinese eat everything with four legs, except tables -- and everything that flies except airplanes,' goes a Chinese saying. Do you believe this saying. In China, they eat the most outrageous things. There is a restaurant in Beijing that only sells dishes of animal penises. Ladies will eat these as it keeps their complexion smooth and nice. Would you go to such a restaurant?

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | I do hope you are hearing right. Many Malaysian tourists have told me horror stories of the food in China. Many came down with diarrhea. Health standards for food preparation are in the zilch zones. And we do not know what is been prepared. It is camouflaged in in all kind of sauce and flavored with unheard of seasonings and condiments that you have but to risk it. So pray you have strong antibodies when you do go as a tourist to China.

2. ladym33 (5146) | 1 month ago | No I don't think I would go there, well maybe I guess I would be willing to taste it, I guess I should not wrinkle my nose at anything with out trying it first, but if they taste anything like liver or any other typs of gizzard then I would not like it and would not eat it. I have never tried cow tongue either and it looks really gross, but people say it is good. It looks like it would taste like liver to me though.

owlwings (5113) | 1 month ago | Beef tongue is more like a very fine grained and fat-less ham than liver. It is actually quite laborious to prepare because it must first be cleaned and boiled, then skinned and finally pressed into a mould where it cools and is served thinly sliced. Since the tongue is mostly muscle (cows use their tongue rather than their teeth to pull the grass that they eat), it is very lean meat and paler and more delicate than most other beef. Tongue can be salted and pickled like ham and is, in my opinion, better that way.
I have to say that many people say that tongue an acquired taste, though I'm not sure why - probably because it's not so common as other preserved meats, so people are not so familiar with it. It's texture is finer than other meats and it has its own flavour but it's a very wholesome meat, all the same.
I don't think I have ever tried sheep's tongue or anything other than beef tongue.

marguicha (3453) | 1 month ago | Beef tongue is wonderful and can be made in many different ways. And liver is the meat that is used for pates, one of the fine pastes to put over a piece of toast or cracker. I do that too, for appetizers. YUMMY!!!

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | Seems our discussion was veered away from Chinese eating strange foods to beef tongue. I have learnt a lot of cooking and eating beef tongues. I have eaten it. It is very nice. It is equivalent to eating cow and goat heart meat.Mixed with a dash of salted vegetable, beef tongue with other offal and noodles, you havegood beef noodle coup! Walla!

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | Spongiform, that's the word. I have eaten brains, ears, tails and tongue as well as the innards. As for organs, spleen meat is my favorite and I can tolerate liver, kidney, stomache and small intestine as well as heart meat. I do occasionally take the 'spongiform' lung meat, deep fried.

| |

owlwings (5113) | 1 month ago | Well, Thea, I'm not sure whether I have either but okra is long and thin and has the right ... um ... texture to class as erotic, I think. It all depends on association, of course. I wouldn't have thought of chocolate or ice cream as being erotic either ... until I was shown;)

Lucky09 (615) | 1 month ago | hi jonjee^^;; i think most unusual food being consumed are always related to having aphrodisiac effect...we also have those. some maybe true but some are just hearsay and were past from generation to generation. i also don't know why food related to beauty and making our skin smooth and silky are food that are not common...isn't it sometimes these statements are used only to attract people to eat more of these private organs so that it will not be wasted and they can sell more? i have heard even the rat fetuses can also bring that effect to our body but is it really true or these people would just want to sell. i'm not against eating those private organs of animals and would surely try...the thing i cannot understand is they are always related to health and beauty and long lif..etc.

6. barehugs (3839) | 1 month ago | Eating in Asia is generally not very exciting, unless you like Cobra snake. We were introduced to our snake while it was still alive, and then we drank its blood mixed with rice wine. There were many different dishes included in the meal such as roasted snake heart, BBQ snake, snake soup with noodles, fried snake bones, snake rolls, etc. All part of a snake restaurant dinner in a snake village in Vietnam. We found Asian food quite unlike Western Chinese food. The reason; in the West, Chinese food is filled with sugar (Plum Sauce) and MSG. In Asia the food is seasoned with vegetables, water cress, and a small amount of salt. To Westerners Asian food is bland and unappetizing.I would have given almost anything for a McDonald's Hamburger. ( something I would not normally eat)

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | barehugs,
yuo can have snake meals anywhere in China, Thailand and Vietnam. Just go to the food streets and you will see them skinning the snakes and squeezing blood from their cut throat. Yes, you drink the blood hot with rice wine. It is suppose to bring vigour into your system. Then the are washed and half boiled first and then friend with condiments and chili. The aroma is shockingly appetizingly good.Yes, King Cobra is also killed for the table. Cost a bit more. It has to be detoxicated first.

7. vingyan06 (1250) | 1 month ago | Hello Jonjee,
Yeah, Chinese like to eat anything. I have seen from the forward email how the China people murder the dogs and cats and serve as delicious dishes in the restaurant. Lately my mom told me the China people is popular to eat newborn baby! It is unbelievable.

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | Yes, they eat almost everything. Cats, dogs, rats, monkeys, crocodiles, green lizards, squirrels and monitor lizards too. Some Chinese also go to the graveyards to look for ant-eaters as apparently, their meat is good for the relief of many ailments including asthma.Sure, I have heard of Chinese cannibalism as well as eating fetuses and placentas.

vingyan06 (1250) | 1 month ago | Hello Jonjee and lucky,
I think I just go wrong for human eat new born baby, suppose it is fetuses. Other than animals, human do likes to eat insects as well. There are many province in China, Japan and Korea people like to eat insects like ants, spiders, grasshoppers and many more. All these insects is cooked and fried till crispy and with aroma. They eat it as snacks. I think these snacks go very nice with beer.

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | I really do not know what the Chinese do in their restaurants in the USA. I think things are more hygienically prepared there. The Health authorities will come down hard on them if they infringe local food bylaws.I think many still order out chopsuey, which is in fact recycled overnight food or food not sold after lunch.

9. cwong77 (1168) | 1 month ago | jonjee... there is a sayings that 'all kind of living things that has the back facing the sky, is edible' therefore, I think only the human are not!
And when I travel to China, we was offered to go to this kind of restaurant, that apparently serving snakes, monkey's brain, insects, and others. We turn it down, and prefer to even just had veg for that meal than having those stuff.
No doubt the tour guide tried to convince us the 'benefit' of eating these creatures, but we are just too 'kind' to even step in there for a try. I think the wildest try that I ever had, is eating snake meat in Thailand.

jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | I have hear of that saying as well. The problem with the Chinese is they are full of beliefs. Since no one can attest otherwise, they will do anything to retain health and libido. Some of these acts can be highly inhumane so as eating monkey brains when them monkey is still alive.I will avoid such Chinese restaurants if I do go to China!

10. moorange (251) | 1 month ago | I believe not only Chinese but also other countries or nationalities that every has unique delicacies or specialty exotic dishes/foods. For me, I want to try those "exotic foods" as long as it's prepared and well cooked (depend on the type or food).
I believe most of us here have watched "bizarre foods", it a nice show featuring delicacies from around the world.
Hao!

|
jonjee0203 (1624) | 1 month ago | Well, they certainly are bizarre. It is just like 'balut', the egg with the almost hatched chicken you find in the Philippines. They claimed it increases libido if eaten frequently enough. It may look hideous initially but many who had partake of it said, you need to condition your mind to eat it to be able to enjoy it! Monkey brains with the monkey still alive to be slurped up using a straw is another delicacy even though it is a very cruel act! so people are cruel just for their health and libido concerns.
