Out of the loop with recent games | | The first game I played was "Hangman" on and Atari Console. After which, there was that classic pingpong game you attached to a TV. It was my cousin's highschool project that he had brought to the house for me to see. Does anyone here remember Microsoft's Flight Simulator of ages ago? Everything was still green back then. I remember it as the first ever game I played on a PC platform!
I came across another unforgettable game when I was already working. "Doom" became an addiction that replaced the quintessential bottle of beer in my hand, at least for a while. After all, it was always the after hour event for a very long time. This was followed by "Warcraft" and "Age of Empires" and other arcade games that didn't have much appeal with me.
The most recent games I've played was "Halo I", "Need for Speed II, Underground", and the "Medal of Honor" Series. By some standards these are old games already. It prompts me to ask, what do gamers pick up these days?

I'm honestly not old enough to remember the Atari. My older brother had a NES, Super Nintendo, and Sega when I was really little. When I was around six or seven I played his copy of Doom. It scared the crap out of me! I myself became obsessed with videogames when the N64 came out...I was the only girl I knew who could play so many videogames and prefer it over many other forms of entertainment. I loved all three Age of Empires, and play numbers 2 and 3 to this day. I am currently playing Dungeon Keeper 2...and have been "currently" playing it since it came out in 1997 or 1999 (can't remember which). I could play The Sims (the first with all expansion packs) as if it were my job throughout middle and high school. Grand Theft Auto was the best game on the PS2 in my sophomore and junior year.
Recently, my husband and I bought a PS3. It completes our current gen system "collection" of the Wii, 360, and PS3. We still own a PS2 and a N64. I am a huge fan of Left 4 Dead for the 360. I have played it for nearly 200 hours now...and if you know which game I mean, it doesn't even have a storyline. I loved Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2 and have beat it nine times. I highly recommend it. All three Halos were great. Assassin's Creed was okay...it was one of those highly irritating games to play to the point of throwing your controller after trying a mission so many times. I liked Prototype, but it didn't have too high of a replay value. I love Harvest Moon (all), which is a farming game for the Nintendo systems, and MarioKarts are always classics.
Those are a few of my current games. What systems do you own?

I've usually played my games on a PC. I did play Halo 1, and Need for Speed 2 on an Xbox 2, and Ghost Recon on a Playstation. I used to work in China and lived in a dormitory where we shared platforms and games.
I forgot to mention it, but was reminded, it was Hexen that gave me the creeps.

I didn't know if they were popular in Hong Kong or with the Chinese for that matter. By the time I was there, the rage was Playstation 2, Xbox, and the coming Xbox 2. I had the chance to play Grand Theft Auto, on a weekend gathering with fellow countrymen.
Alas, some good thing never last. They're usually replaced with new ones, if not better.

| | 2. SomeCowgirl (8176) | 2 months ago | The first games I played as a kid were on the original nintendo and on the super nintendo. I believe I played the atari as well, but don't really recall it. I have played an "updated" version of the atari as well as the plug 'n' play games that you have mentioned. My nephew had two of those, and they were basically a box with a joystick. As for the Flight Simulator, I believe my husband and I cleaned out the drawers here in the computer room and found either that game or a game with a similar title as the game "flight simulator" does sound familiar. The first game I remember playing was a sesame street game on the Amega computer. My uncle had this computer for classes as a student, and he found or made or my grandparents bought the game and I had fun playing the game. I kind of wish I knew what it was so that I could find it and play it again though I am sure I Wouldn't get the enjoyment out of it I did as a Tot.
The games have definitely changed a great deal in what is only a decade and a half give or take. The games I find myself enjoying now are RPG which is Real Player Games. These games include The Sims series, and The Lego Series, Etc. I've played a few shooting games, Halo being one of them, though I've only "tinkered" on that game really. Now I have played Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter a Tom Clancy game. My husband is an avid gamer and I am starting to be as well.

| TheMonkeyKing (17) | 2 months ago | Yes indeed, how far this games have come. It is quite amazing! The Flight Simulator I mentioned was the first one Microsoft released. The graphics were just literally dots on a green screen. I grab the first copy I found when they released the Centennial of Flight edition. Perhaps I was still yearning for that forgotten time. By the 2001 Centennial of Flight, the graphics were almost for real, heck I could even "fly" around my hometown!
Thanks for the response!

| TheMonkeyKing (17) | 2 months ago | Thanks a lot for responding! Indeed you are right. Different strokes for different folks as they say. It is also a surprise that we still yearn for those games we started with, even when we've found something new. More so because the new ones have better graphics, faster, and we now even synchronize our moves while playing. Imagine playing Max Payne on a Wii. I wonder if I can do those around the corner jumps while shooting!:)
Still, it wouldn't be a far-fetched thing to say, that I would still enjoy a good Tetris game now and then. Specially if jumping around corners will make my bones creak.:)

hellcowboy (4851) | 2 months ago | Yeah some people still yearn for the older games even though the newer games have better graphics and are a lot cooler than the stuff we used to have, and yeah even though I love the new games because of all you can do especially on the Wii even though I still love a good Super Mario 64 or Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo 64 every once in a while if nothing else just to see what I used to play when I was a kid before they invented the newer systems.
