Honestly, I doubt it. Granted, technology IS moving forward and the 4.7ish GBs of a single-layer single-sided DVD just aren't quite cutting it these days. Games are starting to take much more than that and when it comes to movies it's all the quality crazy sweeping over and they make fond use of dual-layered DVDs. Still though, it's the inexpensive media of the moment. Even branded DVDs are reasonably cheap, last long when stored in proper conditions, have a low rate of defective production, so it's a simple way to store data in a light, non-magnetic, readable almost everywhere media. True that Blu-Ray is about but with the cost of not only the media but the actual reader and burner, you don't quite get a healthy return of your investment. Maybe if it would get cheaper. On the other hand however, there was some new technology being researched of which I... don't quite recall the details. Something not too different from Blu-Ray and that since it wouldn't be under proprietary production, it'd come out a -lot- cheaper. By then, when either a new efficient disposable media is out there on the market or Blu-Ray drops price significantly, then yes, you'll be able to toss away your DVDs.

Yes I believe that as soon as Bluray becomes more affordable that DVDs will be gotten rid of. They will still be sold but I predict that around 2013 maybe even 2012 that they will quit producing new DVDs because of Bluray. It's ok because I can still watch DVDs on a bluray player.

Yes I do think it will happen soon. Blue rays are already out in the market but because of their high price people can't afford to buy it. So people still stick to dvd's. But soon if the prices drops then I'm afraid dvd's will come to an end. It's a trend. I witnessed beta max, vhs, vcd's die out. Next are dvd's. shadow41
