How Fresh are the Food sold in Supermarkets?

If you are buying your meat from WalMart you have no way of telling, because they cut their meat at a central location,doctor it with preservatives, ( to make it look fresh and red,) and ship it all over the country by refrigerator truck. We stopped buying WalMart meat as soon as we noticed the tiny notice on the package. Yes they do advise via small letters that the meat is preserved with chemical additives.
Aren't people silly to buy and use meat with a chemically preserved shelf life?

WE shop at Giant Hypermarket, a stone throw away. The prices are reasonable. But not all goods are fresh. Once I came across some packets drink that are expired and I just put them aside. There was also another instance when my mother in-law bought a bottle of Hoclicks with a sticker stating a special discount. On reaching home I checked the price punched on the receipt had no discount. Armed with the receipt and
the bottle of Horlicks with the discount sticker I approached the Customer Service
Counter I confronted the attending clerk and lodged my complaint. It so happened the manager was there. I asked the manager to solve my problem, wasting my time, parking
ticket and petrol. He promptly refunded the full amount charged and I can retain my Hoclicks. We must check our goods and receipt.
