Westerners have such ridiculous beliefs like leprechauns, rabbit feet, four-leaf clovers, black cats, horseshoes, stepping on cracks, wishbones, and walking under a ladder. There are some some Filipinos have an even more absurd set of hocus-pocus ideas. Just walk around the Quiapo, a casino, or any far-flung province and you will see a concoction of lucky charms, love potions, and superstitious mumbo jumbo.
Have you have your own Lucky Charms? Did you encounter some of this superstitious stuff?

It's a matter of control, humans love to feel that something they do can control an uncontrollable happening. And next to that they love to blame each other if things do not go right. Like, the bad luck happened because you forgot to throw salt over your shoulder after you spilled some. It's just part of the human condition.

Hi feodda, I am also from India. And there are several other charms as well other than those listed in post above. Here, small black aunts are considered auspicious. Really! My servant maid gives it sugar! And the other day I went to a shop, the shopkeeper said its good to have rats at home. They bring in money!

Hi feodda, it is true! People out here would believe anything is lucky as long as they can get away with being lazy. LOL. When I look at rats the first thing that comes to my mind is stink. I cant stand them. But on the other hand, it is true, we had somebody who kept a stock of grains in basement, that brought in rats, which invariably climbed up, and that was the time my fortune started to look up. It is coincidence I guess. I am just trying to put two and two together I suppose. :)

I am not particularly superstitious but my father is. He has all kinds of strange fears like spilling salt sends him over the edge and he has to flick it over his shoulder so many times. He gets very upset if a mirror is broken and he thinks that any unfortunate incidents that have ever happened to us is because we own a black cat, this one being the most ridiculous...And yes he does have a four leaf clover he keeps in his wallet for good luck!

My grandmother is very superstitious, and when I was a child she told me many stories and she told me about her superstitious beliefs. She is afraid of the number 13, and she believes that it is dangerous to sit 13 people around a table. If my parents have arranged a party, my grandmother insists on eating in the kitchen if 13 people are going to sit at the same table! She is convinced that one person will die within a year if there are 13 people at one table. She also told me that is was dangerous to walk under a ladder, open an umbrella inside the house, look at people's hands etc

I know that there are beliefs that aren't true at all, but I don't feel comfortable labeling other people's belief as supersition. I find it unfair that some people call their beliefs religion while they call other people's beliefs superstition. Is there anyone here who agrees with me?

Iam not believing on any lucky charm like what you said because all of that are tools of evil, why? because that stuff divert your faith, you have to trust in the Lord not to any lucky charms, God can give all what we want in life according to His ways and purposes not by our thinking, submit our self to the Lord and make Him first in anything, remember that God answers...

[b]All such stuff is forbidden in my faith, as they're foolish distractions, often costly, ineffectual, & keep people from focusing on God--the sole source of true miracles. "Luck" is a Pagan concept, & anathema to true Christians. The only "Lucky Charms" we may use is the children's cold breakfast cereal by that name, & I think it's too sugary to be good for children, if used daily!
And the sight of a poor rabbit's sawed off foot makes me horrified, & sick to my stomach!
