Silent Hill Series  email this discussion to a friend?

Has anyone on here ever played Silent Hill in general (any of the games)? Do you love them, hate them, or have no clue what the games are all about in general? Please give any thoughts about any of the Silent Hill games here! I'm curious as to how other people have experienced Silent Hill.

I find this series to be intriguing, deep, and mysterious genre of video game. It seems as though there is a huge unexplained mystery surrounding that mysterious mining town and the games only scratch the surface of the entire idea. However, just by looking into the games as merely surviving a series of horrid nightmares, I could only be seeing a part of the entire picture.

The games are totally awesome to play because the mood is so different than any other game, which in contrast is bright and colourful. ( Insert Super Mario Galaxy here. :) ) Silent Hill presents an entirely different reality, a realistic world which looks to me as something representing the tortured minds of the protagonists venturing through Silent Hill. You are probably thinking to yourself that Silent Hill isn't realistic in the sense that demons are walking around everyday. What I mean is that the creators of the game put an effort in the game design to make Silent Hill come to life, and to keep the franchise breathing to tell another part of its legacy. Silent Hill was created to be a metaphor for inner demons, the darker side of reality, and the emptiness that consumes us in the depths of the backs of our minds. Well, in theory anyway...

I put this topic in the XBox 360 section only because I'm currently struggling through Silent Hill: Homecoming. I'm not an avid Silent Hill fan, but there is a playability which I am comfortable with, even if my heart rate raises itself when I'm walking the character through a darkened hallway with merely a hunting knife in hand. Overall, I love Survival Horror, not because of the gore and such, but the steady way the story and history of Silent Hill unfolds as it is explored. Also essentially, you are solving puzzles and trying to figure out how to get the heck out of Silent Hill alive. All fun within itself (for me anyway!)

If you hate these games, let me know. If you love them, post here. I've only played a couple of the games, but it is always nice to get the full perspective on video games that matter to people. After all, there is some deeper thought in the Silent Hill franchise than I'm currently seeing. Happy MyLotting, and of course playing video games! :D

I played silent hill when it first came out on the original playstation. That was the only time I played it. I thought it was an alright game. I liked resident evil the best though. Resident evil was more fun and scary to me back then.

Cool. Whether you like Silent Hill or not, it is awesome that you like Resident Evil. I still believe that Resident Evil is just as scary as Silent Hill is, only because of the atmosphere, and the limited ammo. Thank-you for the response, Jenlex79! Happy MyLotting!

Yeah, when I was a teenager, my friends and I used to talk about what we would do if zombies took over the world. That was when the first Resident Evil came out. Its funny to think we had conversations like that about a video game, but I've always been a big gamer. I think that when you play a scary game, you feel like your really there.

This is a good discussion, and I am sure that a lot of people like video games, and I am sure that a lot of people have played the Silent Hill series and liked it,while others might have hated it,and when it comes to me I love video games and they are one of my favorite pastimes and I could not live without video games, and I have never played the Silent Hill series of video games but I have heard a lot about them and they seem like really interesting games, and I definitely want to check them out one day and see if they are my type of game, because I am always looking for new games to play, since playing the same old games over and over gets a tad bit boring,as I am sure all gamers know what I am talking about, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Well, if you haven't played the games, it is never too late to try them out. The Silent Hill games take a couple of genres such as: puzzles, fighting, and I can chance saying Role Playing Game. In the sense of an RPG definition for Silent Hill, you are following/ witnessing the events to which the main character is going through... or technically, playing the main character and experiencing what happens to him/her as you get through the game. Thank-you very much for your insight and response. I greatly appreciate everyone's viewpoints on any subject. Good luck in all of your video gaming endeavours, Hellcowboy! Also, happy MyLotting! :)

Yeah it is never too late to try something new,and that is awesome that it combines a couple of genres so it sounds like it would be a really interesting game to play, and that is cool that you see what happens to the main character and I like games that are like that, you are very welcome for my input I like sharing my opinions and my experiences and I also like learning new things, and new ways to do things, and good luck with your video game endeavours as well, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Resident Evil and Silent Hill were the only games I wanted to play. Silent Hill 2 is my favorite, it was disturbing and sad. Silent Hill:Homecoming is okay, I wish it was more like the second one. I like how each one has a "joke" or alien ending. The pyramid head costume in homecoming is pretty funny.
I still want to play Origins and the new Shattered Memories but it's not on xbox 360,hopefully it will be. I like the haunted house in the third one and the rabbits are kinda creepy. Too bad they didn't put this on xbox. It's amazing how scary and terrifying these games can get. I'm not sure if there will be a sixth one but I hope there will be. Even though I've played the first one ten times or so it can still be very scary (especially the graphics ;)

Thanks for the response, Vivrenpar. I don't know how I would feel about a 6th Silent Hill though. At this point, after playing a chunk of the fifth one, I'm not really all that sure what they could really do to keep the series alive really. That sounds unfortunate, but hey if there is a Saw 6 out in theatres now, there is a possibility for anything. After 5 Silent Hill games, you just end up expecting an enemy to be popping out from a corner, and the whole surprise factor flies out the window. Man, I'm hoping that video games aren't beginning to stall with their epic scope of ideas. Survival horror is an awesome genre for video games. Now the only hope is that the genre doesn't begin to go stale.

I just love the first Silent Hill Game for the PSX. I still shudder to play it twice, especially when the sun sets (in-game) and the main protagonist has to use his torchlight to find his way out. By the way, did you ever notice how realistic the night scene looks? The protagonist focuses his torchlight on objects with the light focused on the object and the surrounding area pitch dark. A truly immersive atmospheric horror game!

Thank-you for your response, Anurag2009! I can agree with you in regards to the night scenes. throughout the entire game, I felt a sense of realism to the entire experience in general only because the game was such fresh spin on things all those years ago. Even though you are playing in a nightmare, the creators of the game knew to keep their audience immersed with the whole aspect of the game, there had to be a reasonable amount of recognizable content. Silent Hill's type of survival is both emotional, and raw. By raw I mean whatever happens to be around the various buildings and streets in Silent Hill is what you have. Very good response. I hope you still enjoy playing the rest of the Silent Hill series in the possible years to come.
