How do you ask someone what they want for Christmas without giving it away?

We don't celebrate christmas but this goes for any celebration of course. Just ask:" What kind of thing would you want to have for..." Don't have that person tell you what exactly he/she wants but just a direction. Make sure you can narrow the options down.:D

what ill do is to chat with the person and then little by little i can get an idea of what she wants.

I'd try toying around with what you want! People generally love to talk about them selves and if you start out by talking about what you would like for Christmas, it wouldn't be long before she or he returned the favor so you'll get the info your looking for! tdemex

I just ask them to give me an idea of what they want and I try to expand on it from there. For example, my daughter-in-law had just re-decorated her kitchen last year and wanted a red coffee pot for Christmas to go with her new decor. I did get her the red pot but I also got her matching red utensils, dish rags, place mats and small area rug. Even though she wasn't surprised about the coffe pot, she was surprised with the rest I think.

My husband and I usually give gifts to our parents and sibling during Christmas. So they are really used to it that we always have presents for them every year. What we usually do is that we ask them what they wanted to have for christmas, we ask them for three kinds. But of course we would just give one. Among the three mentioned things of what they wanted to have we will just choose which among these three that would be fitted to our gift budget, then that would be our gift. it is not much of a surprise but still that leaves them wondering still of which among those three will be given to them. We do these just to avoid giving gift that they do not want. we want that our gift to them would be of use to them.

I do always asks someone what they want for christmas. But all the time i can give it to them, I asks them so i have an option and idea what to give.
If i can afford it then i am giving it to them, if not i am going to find some alternatives to surprise them.

i had this problem last year. i got a mutual friend to ask the person for me. she said she told my friend to if there were something that he really wanted but just haven't gotten around to buying it. he told her about a few things and i got. also i would ask family members or friends of that person if they have heard that person mention anything during the year that they really wanted. hope you find a solution.

i usually get people i love to write a list of several things that they want for christmas and then i usually pick one or two things from the list and get them for the recipient for christmas.
