 If you only get around 4 request a day from charities count yourself lucky. I just read where there are 1.5 million nonprofit entities in the United States. I have so many address labels and now Christmas cards that I probably won't have to buy any more for the rest of my life. I have also gotten enough blank cards that I never need to buy any more stationery for writing letters.

Wouldnt that money be better used going straight to the people that need it, or does it actually work and does everyone, or at least the majority of people who receive this stuff actually donate.

 lotterylover (4765) | 1 month ago | You can find the answers to your question by looking up the charity you are interested in and find how much of a dollar they actually spend on their project. You might be shocked how little actually goes to the project. If I find they are giving less than 75 cent on the dollars I look elsewhere to give my money. | |

I will always get a new set the next month to put on my bills etc. I think they would check their donations and not send to people who don't send any money after a mailing or two. Just send a request once a year then if they aren't a regular. | |

I jsut think there are some things that are OK to do but there are some charities that think they are entitled to call anytime.

I also get anywhere from 15 cents to even a whole dollar in the mail. I may get only 3 pennies or 3 nickles but I don't think a week passes that I don't get some money or a check I can cash. | |

My wife started taking them to church if they don't have our name on it so the kids can write on them instead of the tithe envelopes. Can't remember having to do that with our kids when they were little. We just expected them to sit quietly. | |

The food banks shelves were empty. Think I will just start going over with food we aren't eating instead of waiting for the Scouts to come by. We also help our daughter. | |

There were times when i could have really used some help when i was young & raising my sons by myself. | 7. 3SnuggleBunnies (3317) | 1 month ago |  I hear ya! I only get a request every so often via the mail. I don't mind the stickers/labels though I do find myself sending out fewer holiday cards & things via the USPS so I have them a long time.
Though the one we get over the phone is for the local Sheriff's department... HOWEVER, it's not the department themselves calling is a company they pay to do the calling. Save my tax dollars and just have deputies who believe in the cause they are working on to do the calling not a private firm.

8.  bobmnu (2647) | 1 month ago |  I only give to those charities that I know use the money to help the people. This is why I give to local charities that I have work with and see how the money is used.
My mother always gave to the Salvation Army because a man known to her Uncle while serving during WWI was lost behind enemy lines and finally made it back to friendly lines. Once he was back the Salvation Army was the only group to help him contact his family, get a new uniform and personal care items, then reunite him with his unit.
Many people have such reasons or examples as to why they donate to a charity.
