Worried about my sister |
|
My sister is sick!! She is one of those people that will not go to the doctor unless she is like dying. Well this morning she went into work and told me she called the doctor for an appointment and was going to have him test her for the H1N1. its been over two hours now and I have not heard anything. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the test results? Im very worried, can someone help calm me down? What are the symtoms of H1N1? she has a bad cough thats all I know and said she feels awful.

1. AmbiePam (15445) | 3 months ago | They'd be able to tell very quickly if she had the H1N1 virus. She sounds like she has a cold or the aching kind of flu. I wouldn't worry too much. I know it is easy for me to say, but even if she has it, at her age she should be able to kick it quickly. Some kids in my church had it and they recovered very quickly.

caroll30 (1102) | 3 months ago | my sister is back at home. her boss told her not to come back to work. doctor didnt test her said all tests for swine were coming back positive so he said she probably has it along with a bad case of peunmonia. she is on the z pack and he gave her cough med with codene. she will stay home from work tomorrow also i hope im now worried that her eight year old daughter may get it.

mrfdg1972 (510) | 3 months ago | codene is not good for FLU, it is a Downer Drug, you dont want your system down while battling Flu. you will be more prone and less likely to recover immediately from flu.

caroll30 (1102) | 3 months ago | the doctor thinks she may have pneumonia. She has no body aches, fever, or diarehea. Just a bad cough.

3. Binthu (3410) | 3 months ago | Hi Caroll,
Most of the symptoms are very similar to the cold and also you need not worry about this and also they can inform the test report immediately. So I hope that your sister would have some sorts of minor cough and cold and may have some types of body pains too. So if she is taking the counter or prescribed medicines then she would feel better, and she will return the home at the earliest. So better to call her and make the inquiry, I think she is on the way to the home. I hope that your sister would gets good health and would return the home very safely.
Have a nice day.

4. mrfdg1972 (510) | 3 months ago | It could be flu, H1N1 incorporates a very sore throat, and severe diarrhea those are the main difference between these strains of Flu.But don't be worried about your sister, Yes it might be H1N1 but there is no harm in this type of flu, I have 2 uncles who are Doctors of medicine, they say the Problem with this type of strain is the reduced immune system that opens our body for more virus and bacterial attack and the lose of body fluid if you have severe diarrhea, So the key is improved body resistance while combating H1N1. and statistically speaking, cancer and heart attack AIDS are far more dangerous. almost everybody who had H1N1 usually recovered with 1-2 weeks depending on body Resistance, I bet you would not believe we were QUARANTINED here in our town, here in the Philippines. for 14 days nobody gets out or gets in. when a doctor gets in he cannot get out anymore. every one was sick with h1n1 but no one suffered a loss except for one who was later diagnose with lung cancer. And later the whole country was sick and the disease just vanished. I remember you trusted me for the blow drier, now that i have earn some friend, i wont spill it. The govt. is just sensationalizing the disease, you don't even need the vaccine, i have been there, (in the quarantine area), everybody gets well, nothing to be afraid of. about the test, its 6 hours. But they don't test you unless you are very very very sick.

caroll30 (1102) | 3 months ago | Hi thanks for responding. You are so right they didnt even test her. What she has in more of a bad cough and she is having a hard time breathing. Her chest feels heavy. The doctor put her on a strong antibiotic its called the z pak not sure if you have heard of this but this cures almost everything. So now she needs to rest.

mrfdg1972 (510) | 3 months ago | z pack there its Zinnat here, it speeds up recovery, that is very good in fighting infection, A Nebulizer will help in the breathing, if you have one. Aroma therapy will also help your sister, like a scented candle or eucalyptus inhaler. and lots of orange juice.

5. mariposaman (2507) | 3 months ago | The swine flu for most people is no different than any other flu. In fact the statistics show that it is no more deadly than any other flu. The only difference is that tends to kill younger people instead of the elderly. The elderly seem to have a natural immunity to the swine flu as they've probably got it sometime 50 or 60 years ago and became immune at that time.
For younger people they have never been exposed to this new virus so a few people tend to react badly and even sometimes fatally.
There is not much point in testing for the swine flu now if she has it. Treat it like any other flu, stay home from work for about a week get plenty of bed rest and drink lots of fluids and she will probably be okay.

6. CatsandDogs (5153) | 3 months ago | Hang in there sweetie, you'll know soon, I'm sure. Most likely she has the flu and not the swine flu. At least that's what I hope anyway. At least she's going to the doctor to be checked out which is a good thing. Now to know what the symptoms are, look up swine flu symptoms and you should be able to find it. I wish you well my friend!

| 7. atlantis25 (11) | 3 months ago | Do not worry if your sister as H1N1 you would know as the one main symptomis a fever if she as not got this then she as not got swine flu. As i showed symptoms of the H1N1 Virus and i telephoned my doctors whom told me that a fever is the main symptom if the patient does not have this symptom, then it would just be a cold

caroll30 (1102) | 3 months ago | She has no fever at least not yet. the doctor said it could be the H1N1 or puenomia or both. So he gave her an antibioctic and cough meds.

8. ladym33 (5665) | 3 months ago | Sounds like she needs to get some good rest. Tell her along with her C-pack to make sure she gets lots of fluids. Dehydration can be the worst thing when it comes to any flu. She will probably not feel like eating but she should try to eat. Call her and remind her to eat and drink if you think you need to. Drop off some nice soup but don't go in and visit, you don't want to get it too.

9. Hatley (21801) | 3 months ago | caroll30 do not get so upset, she probably just has the common garden variety of flu. the symptoms of the swine flu are just about the same as any other flu, just a bit more severe, it seems to me that only the very old or very young,or people with badly compromised immune symptoms h get horribly ill with swine flu. most young people just get as sick as they would with the other flu and get over it just as quickly.
| |
| |
|
|
caroll30 (1102) | 3 months ago | Gosh Hatley everyone tells me something different. If you read this entire discussion i have many different answers. I dont know who or what to believe. The doctor would not test her he said she had the same symtoms other people who did get tested had so he said she most likely has it. On the same hand he said it could be puenomia so he gave her an antibiotic for that. If its not puenomia and is the flu then the antibiotic will not do anything so in a few days she will know for sure. Im very worried about her eight year old daughter.

10. mommyboo (3404) | 3 months ago | Well I see you've found out some information since you posted this, but I feel the same way, I rarely go to the doctor unless I am like dying lol. I do go primarily once a year because I am on bc, but my doctor told me that I am free to skip a year now because all my results for everything have been normal for 3+ years.
If I were afraid that I had the flu, I'd likely go to the doctor BECAUSE I am around kids at the school so much, I have a five year old, and I have a high schooler. The last thing I'd want would be to expose them and everybody they're around too.
The only concern about H1N1 as opposed to normal strains of the flu is that H1N1 seems to cause more problems AFTER the fact - like pneumonia or it attacks your immune system and causes a host of other things that may be unrelated but horrific. I hear that it affects more younger people, younger healthy people including small children.

mommyboo (3404) | 3 months ago | Here is some information for you:
What are swine flu symptoms? Symptoms of H1N1 swine flu are like regular flu symptoms and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Many people with swine flu have had diarrhea and vomiting. Nearly everyone with flu has at least two of these symptoms. But these symptoms can also be caused by many other conditions. That means that you and your doctor can't know, just based on your symptoms, if you've got swine flu. Health care professionals may offer a rapid flu test, although a negative result doesn't necessarily mean you don't have the flu. The accuracy of the test depends on the quality of the manufacturer’s test, the sample collection method, and how much viral sample a person is shedding at the time of testing.
Who is at highest risk from H1N1 swine flu? Most U.S. cases of H1N1 swine flu have been in children and young adults. It's not clear why, and it's not clear whether this will change.
It appears people who suffer from other health conditions, especially chronic ones like diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, neurologic disorders, asthma, anybody with an immune disorder or someone on drugs for cancer or a transplant are at higher risk, as well as pregnant women, infants and toddlers.
Emergency warning signs:
Children should be given urgent medical attention if they:
Have fast breathing or trouble breathing Have bluish or gray skin color Are not drinking enough fluid Are not waking up or not interacting Have severe or persistent vomiting Are so irritable that the child does not want to be held Have flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with fever and a worse cough Have fever with a rash Have a fever and then have a seizure or sudden mental or behavioral change.
Adults should seek urgent medical attention if they have:
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen Sudden dizziness Confusion Severe or persistent vomiting Flu-like symptoms that improve, but then come back with worsening fever or cough
