Click More at the bottom of that then you will be able to drag Status Updates to the top of the list. It's not exactly the same as it was before they redecorated but that's what's causing all the trouble.

I feel like the new version of live feed keeps spamming me with people who have newly added friends (like I even care so much of who they added.) Everyone should know that they can edit what to post there by Unchecking the adding friends and becoming a fan button in the account settings page to avoid the spam. I agree to the previous comment here that it is much better to switch to status updates than the news feed or the live feed.
