Does it? Does anyone take it? If you do how much do you take? Can someone please give me some information on melatonin? Im having trouble falling asleep and staying alseep and I heard someone say they took melatonin. It was also prescribed for my sisters daughter. Can someone help me out here? Does it work and how much should I take?

It does work. It's not for every night use, just when you need it. My mom got some for my dad at the health food store (couldn't find it at Walmart). It says on the bottle how much to take. My dad takes one tablet before he wants to go to sleep. I'm sure constant use for many years isn't good for a person, but for occasional use it has proven to be safe.

I guess we make melatonin naturally but some people dont make enough. my sisters doctor said it cannot hurt you its a natural thing we already have in our bodies. I took one table just once and it didnt do anything for me. Im wondering if i could take more than one???

I think what you're referring to that sometimes our bodies don't make enough of is serotonin. That's why some people end up on anti-depressants because the lack of serotonin in their brain. As for the melatonin, I wouldn't take more than one of them at night unless you talk to your doctor. Well, let me rephrase that. I would take more than one, probably two, but we're not supposed to. I've taken more than one of a natural sleeping pill before and it didn't hurt me, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt you. I just don't want to tell you to do something dangerous.

The pill my dad takes is supposed to be dissolved under his tongue. Is that how yours is to be taken?

T took it before. I read the label as to how much to take. It did help relax me and made me fall aslepp but I only stayed asleep for about 3 or 4 hour. It is a herb so if you are on any medicines ask your doctor or a pharmist if it is safe.

I have had many people over at Facebook tell me the samw thing about melatonin. They tellme to talk to my pharmicist about it. I am going to this weekend & try it out.. I hope it works, as i am tired of not sleeping....

yes, it really does. you should talk to your doctor but i find that melatonin does work. i take 500 mg when i need to and i find that it doesnt make you tired in the morning.

ok i have looked up studies on melatonin. the study concluded that it only works to help people who sleep during the day. you got to remember that the human body releases melatonin naturally at night when people sleep in response to the dark. its impossible to do this during the day time. thats while melatonin in pill form helps during the day. if people have graveyard shift it would do them some good.

Whatever article you read is incorrect. I called my doctor and he said it should be taken ONLY at night and right before bed. Meletonin is a natural hormone we produce and it you take more than your body produces on its own you will sleep better at least thats what my doctor told me. I wanted to actually hear from people who took it and say it worked. Thanks elmiko have a good day!!

I personally found that it works very well. The problem for me is that it worked TOO WELL. It made me sleep all night, and i was tempted to sleep all the next day. This even at a low dosage. It seemed to build up in my body. The first night was fine, the next i felt a little tired durring the day, until it got worse and worse.
The other thing about it, is it gave me very vivid dreams- in technicolor. That's okay if its a good dream, but not the other way. I stopped using it.

I have tried it and it helped me get to sleep but I only stayed asleep for about 3 hours. I would love a straight 6 or 7 hours of sleep even just one day a week. Valeian Root works better but it has a terrible odor when you open the bottle.

I was having lots of trouble sleeping. I couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep. I met with my Dr two weeks ago and she suggested I try Melatonin. My Dr. said to take anywhere from 3-5mg. Doses are listed on the bottles/packages. This has been helping as far as falling asleep, but I am still waking up a few times after 3am. I noticed when I do sleep, it's a much deeper sleep. I have not been sleepy during the day. I only take 3mg. I went to The Vitamin Shoppe and they helped me pick out what would be good. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to supplements.

i used to have horrible insomnia i would stay up for 3 - 4 days in a row sometimes please be carefull with perscription drugs as they can be dangerous and have many side affects the only thing i would reccomend to someone for insomnia is to smoke some weed before bed you will sleep like an angel cannabis has compleetly suppressed my insomnia for the past 4 years it really has no competition as their are no negative side affects or long term affects and you can overdose unlike all the perscription sh.it they try to feed us. good luck and i hope you are able to suppress your insomnia aswell <3 sweet dreams
