Baluyadav (1341) | 2 months ago | Hi,lisa,my children initially used 'Medikare" lotion for this problem and couldn't get complete solution. Then one o my elder well wisher told that if we use the neem leaves, you would get better results. Then we collected neem[Azadiractin] leaves and crush them to semi solid. Then aply on head before sleeing to till morning. Then we should have head bath, you can see the results.Try this.

2. jugsjugs (3228) | 2 months ago | Oh i hate head lice.Thankfully i have boys so i tend to keep their hair short so that it is less of a problem. They say that not only have their hair treated, but all the familys hair as well as the bedding washed as lice do live on pillow cases. If you only treat their hair and nothing else they will be back as soon as they have gone.

vonmac (2507) | 1 month ago | Same here It wasnt really ever a problem for my boys because I had the clippers set to a number 2 setting for years so their hair was never long enough for them to catch head lice I dont know, but I dont think head lice do live on pillow cases and bedding but I could be wrong about that.

4. fmpisces (244) | 2 months ago | Hi lisaproctor,
headlice are such a nuisance and it's even way worse when the childrens' parents don't treat their heads regularly. I read somewhere a long time ago, that nits/lice do not like the smell of Tea Tree Oil, so that is at least one natural product that can be used as a deterrent.Other than that I don't really know. Here is a link I found after doing a search on Google:

Hope this helps, Fiona.

5. irishidid (3067) | 2 months ago | As someone said, the other kids your kids are around can reinfect them. You can take precautions which might help. Give them bags to put their coats, hats, etc. in at school if there's an outbreak. Keep their hair oiled. If the lice can't attach their nits, they won't like it. The more squeaky clean the kid's hair, the better the lice like it. Treat your house and everything in your house. Washing what can be washed. Either throw pillows, etc. in the dryer or bag them and leave 2 weeks. Throw their coats and hats in the dryer when they get home, just as a precaution.

| 6. juliem65 (6) | 2 months ago | Tea tree oil works. You can buy it at a local drug store. Just add a few drops to your children's shampoo and wash and rinse their hair as usual. However; it is very important not to let the oil get in their eyes. I've been told that hairspray works as well but I've never tried it. Does anyone know if hairspray really works?

7. Wizzywig (2868) | 2 months ago | I worked in schools for several years and once got head lice. I discovered them the night before my mother-in-laws funeral so had no chance of getting any of the branded treatments before leaving to travel the 200miles early the next morning. I freaked out at the thought of elderly aunts spotting them against my black jacket & dark hair. Luckily, I did have a "nit comb" so poured the best part of a bottle of conditioner on and just combed and combed until my head was sore. I must've got them all because I never found any more tho I repeated it 48hours later. I used the conditioner/comb once a week after that - but less visciously!. It has the advantage that theres no build-up of immunity to the ingredients so it can be used as a 'preventative' or 'just in case' measure.

8. smilyn (1049) | 2 months ago | Here are few tips to control the headlice from ndiaparenting.com:
There are medicated treatments in the market that kill the lice, but the problem is that lice are developing immunity to these products all too soon. As a result, stronger and stronger medication is being used every time. Don't kid yourself into thinking that these treatments are safe for your child. They contain pesticides.
Visit any home store that sells essential oils, and pick up a bottle each of rosemary, tea tree and lavender oil. Take 20 drops of each of these oils and put them in measuring cup. Now, add vinegar and double the amount of olive oil so you have half a cup of the mixture. Apply this to your child's scalp and leave on overnight. Wash off the next morning, and apply any leftover mixture to your child's head the next night.
People have also reported positive results using only vinegar and olive oil, so if you cannot find the essential oils, skip them.
It is likely that your child's bed sheets, pillows, towels etc are infested with lice or nits, so make sure you put them all for a wash. Soak them well in hot water, let them dry in the sun, and iron. Wash all hairbrushes and combs daily, until your child's lice have gone.
Hope his helps you.

9. weasel81 (1250) | 2 months ago | i've been lucky so far, there's been another out break at school but son has not got any yet. a few yrs back we got a neice (she was in foster care and had not long gone there when she came down on holiday) who had head lice so bad, it was enough to make you sick. my mother in-law put kerosene in her hair to kill the lice, and vinger at one stage and had her sit out in the sun. it may have stunk but it worked, combing them out was worse. my ex-sister in-law is a hair dresser and she said to use lots of conditioner, to make your hair slippery and nits can't stick. i think the old remedies are the better one to use.

10. Bebs08 (2527) | 1 month ago | My nieces have lice and nits and it has been a problem with kids running everyday under the heat of the sun. what we do, is when she is taking a bath, and shampoo her hair, we put white cloth over her hair and scratch it. The nits and lice will stick to the cloth. Be sure that the hair has lather. Another thing we do is to put olive oil on the hair after taking shower.. or coconut oil will do. Then wrap the hair with cloth for 10 minutes then after that, comb the hair using the very fine comb. The nits and lice will be taken out easily. They can not stay in a slippery environment. Do this everyday. Good luck.
