Drunk Driving...yay or nay??? |
|
by now you have all read or at least heard about the lady that was driving drunk with all those kids in the vehicle that got into a horrible accident. She was killed along with several of the children. Toxology reports say that she was drunk and high on pot. Her husband is desperatly trying to clear her name. I've heard him speak and my heart does go out to him. He is very convincing and I think that in his heart he really really really believes in her innocence. I have also heard the opposing side which is equally convincing...actually more convincing. I was married to an alcoholic and I know some of the tricks of their trade. I also had a sister in law who shocked me completely when I quite by accident discovered that she was drinking vodka in her morning coffee and all sorts of other tricks. No one would have thought this woman to be someone who drank or was anything short of the perfect wife and mom...her husband included. She was every bit the druggie and drunk that my ex was only she went to much greater extremes to cover her habits. That vodka bottle that he says lasts them months....I'm thinking she was refilling the same bottle over and over. So what are your thoughts on this? Time will tell I'm sure and I'm going to feel bad for leaning on the side of guilty if in fact she wasn't but that's where I'm at at this point.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Hi there jerimiyah,
I agree with you that they should stay where they are at or find a motel. I'm guessing that you didn't follow this story? This woman was in an accident that killed herself and several children. The reports say she was drunk and yet all those that knew her well claim there was a mistake and that this could not have been so. I am beginning to think she was a closet alcholic but I could be wrong. Sad story anyway. Thanks for your response!

I had not heard about this incident but it's a shame when a drunk kills anyone else, let alone children. Sometimes the toxology reports are wrong. a food or drug registers as alcohol, so I guess she could be innocent. I know they try and cover up how much they drink etc. In the end, sometimes when it's too late the problem comes to light. My father drank a lot, my mother says he put whiskey in his coffee and things that I never realized. He never seemed drunk.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | They found a smashed vodka bottle in the car and THC levels in her blood that indicated that she had very high levels and had just smoked. Her blood/ alcohol level was more than double the legal limit according to reports. The husband says that they kept a bottle of vodka in their camper where they spent weekends and that sometimes she transported it from the camper to their home so he could have a drink during the week because she was frugal. He says this bottle lasts them up to 8 months. My thoughts is that she was drinking and refilling that bottle to make it look like not much was drank. And he also claims she did not smoke pot and yet she had very high levels of THC in her system. Again my thinking is leaning towards that she was one good cover up artist.

cerebellum (162) | 4 weeks ago | It does sound like she was good at covering up. Vodka looks so much like water, it would be easy to fool someone into thinking the bottle was full.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Hi there Alice,
Well, she died in that crash along with the kids. It is the husband that is on TV and trying to clear her name by saying the toxicology report is wrong etc. He has even hired a private investigator who believes that it is wrong and that she had some medical condition which caused the accident.

4. lelin1123 (4123) | 4 weeks ago | Drinking and driving is the craziest thing anyone can do. As for this case that you are writing about at first I thought they must have gotten the test results messed up with someone elses. Then after everything that has come out I just think he didn't know she had a problem and he is in denial and doesn't want to accept what has happened. I will never understand how someone can drink and then think they can get behind the wheel of the car and drive.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Hi there lelin,
My thinking is that he is in denial as well. Still he has gone so public about it and the family whose kids were killed in that crash are pretty darn angry about it and rightly so, I'm thinking. I don't understand at all what possesses people to drink and drive either. I will NOT get behind the wheel after more than one drink even if I'm not drunk. If I get pulled over and the cop smells it, I will have to go thru so much hassle to prove my innocence that it isn't worth it to me. I see a real lot of it as I work next to a bar and it just irks me. I have kids and loved ones out there that are at risk because of these foolish people.

5. muscles4me (8511) | 4 weeks ago | What a shame that some childern were also killed. When some crosses the line between one drink and several they always think they are NOT drunk when they are and so they drive when many times they should not be driving. It is sad for your sister in law that she is probably drinking all day. But we can not make anyone stop drinking, they have to want to.

6. JenInTN (3515) | 4 weeks ago | I think it's a strange story. I can't imagine why they would say she was intoxicated if she was not. I read that the husband's insurance was not going to pay if she was and that's why he's fighting it so strongly. I don't know though. I think it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Oh now I didn't even think of that one but you are probably right. I used to work in insurance and it is true....they will NOT pay on a DWI claim and so he, being next of kin, would be liable. Now it makes perfect sense as to why he is so adamantly fighting this thing. No wonder the victim's families are so angry at him right now. I don't blame them. His entire defense is just weird at best. He claims that they keep a bottle of vodka in their camper and she will bring it to their home during the week sot that he can have a drink (not her) and that it has lasted them 8 months. My first thought was that she was drinking from it and refilling it. I'm not a big drinker but I do make kaluha and indulge in a drink or two sometimes when I get out of work. That same size bottle even if I had 2 drinks a week would not last 8 months and I mix them weak.

7. sender621 (758) | 4 weeks ago | I am very much against drinking and driving. I lost my father when I was 16 to drinking and driving. This was before DUI laws were heavily enforced. The man driving the car that hit my father was hardly punished. It just doesn't seem fair. I would do anything in my power to keep anyone from drinking and driving. The repercussions are just not worth it. Many times the drinker is not the only victim in this situation.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Hi there Sender!
First I want to say that I am so so sorry that you lost your father so young. Thankfully, I have not had such a painful experience hit so close to home. Still, I do have loved ones out on the road and I get so infuriated with the pure selfishness that is causes a drunk person to get behind the wheel of a car and risk innocent lives and their own as well. It causes so much pain not just to themselves but others as well. I know many many drinkers that would never ever get behind the wheel drunk. It says so much about the person who does. They just don't care about anyone...even themselves.

sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Hi Jugs,
That's so true. So In this case do you think this woman was really drunk? Or do you believe she had some sort of medical condition as the husband is trying to prove?

9. world2lot (296) | 4 weeks ago | Accidents are mainly due to drunk and drive drivers. I think fining is not a good punishment for those people because they do the same for the next time. A good thing to stop this and to save life from accidents due to this reason is by ceasing the license of the person who do drunk and drive.
| |
| |
|
|
sid556 (10505) | 4 weeks ago | Taking their license is usually what happens....at least here in the States. Even then, some of these people will drive. So in this case, the husband is saying that this woman was not a drinker and was not drunk even tho tests showed more than double the legal amount of alcohol in her system as well as high levels of pot. They also found a vodka bottle in the car. He is desperatly trying to prove her innocence and clear her name. What do you think?
