Do you use apple sauce in baking instead of eggs?  |

A friend of mine used apple sauce in baling banana bread instead of eggs. I am just wondering if this is good to use than real eggs? Well, that is only for banana bread but for other breads? am not sure. for those who loves to bake here what can you say?

1. deebomb (9021) | 2 months ago | Most of the time eggs help in make cakes or breads to rise and for keeping the ingredients sticking together. You don't have to have applesauce in banana nut bread. the bananas can be used for moisture.

Bebs08 (2527) | 2 months ago | It really is my friend.. the result is good. My friend is a pure vegetarian that even eggs she doesn't eat. That's the reason of it. Then there is a technique she did that makes her banana bread soft and yummy. After baking, she will let it cool for 5 minutes and then take it out from the baking pan and wrap it with foil and put it inside a zip lock cellophane. Let it stay on top of your table over night. Try it and you will know what I am saying. Good luck.
PS. if she used 1 egg that is equivalent to 1/4 cup apple sauce. Happy baking.

4. Clicker625 (78)  | 2 months ago | I also believe that applesauce is substituted for oil. It's healthier than using something like vegetable oil and such fats as lard. I've only used it a few times. Instead I use my favorite recipes and use whatever that recipe calls for.

6. kykidd (4623) | 2 months ago | I am glad that you have started this discussion. I was not familiar with the fact that you could substitute eggs with apple sauce. I am going to have to do a little research, plus go through and read all of your responses here. I have recently discovered an egg allergy, and this will really come in handy for me. I'll have to talk to my sister about it as well, as she is the cook and crafty one of the family.

I did not try yet in cake. But apple sauce is really good for my banana bread. You can try it. 1 egg is equivalent to 1/4 cup apple sauce.
