I stopped smoking today |
|
Me and a friend recently decided that we need to stop smoking so we made today the day that we would stop and we think that by stopping together we will be more likely to quit altogether. I'm cheating in a way because I'm using a nicotine inhalator but willpower alone would let me down. Have you ever stopped smoking? How did you stop? Did you start again?

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thnak you. I didn't particularly want to give up but I want to enjoy the health benefits. I enjoy smoking but I feel that with the restrictions in public places it's no longer as enjoyable as it was. I'll try to just use the inhalator for a while and see how i cope.

2. Hatley (19989) | 4 weeks ago | hi bullettooth Good for you, stick to it and do it your way' just so you get off the smoking. I have never smoked so atleast I will not have to quit. Smoking is really horrible on one's health so you are doing a good thing for your body. My dad was one of those who could stop cold turkey, but most do need some sort of help and that is just fine, as long as you get off the habit. good luck and God bless

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thnak you Hatley. My dad also stopped cold turkey when they became too expensive. I've tried cold turkey in the past but never succeeded so hopefully the inhalator will make it easier.

3. vonmac (1559) | 4 weeks ago | I had to stop smoking My lungs collapsed. Scared me shitless, I have smoked one or 2 Joints since, but everyone knows that one or two joints never hurt anyone. I dont think that counts because there is no nicotine involved. And its fun getting high!!

|
|
BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Yes it's fun and drinking can be fun in moderation, we have to do what we enjoy otherwise life would become boring and unrewarding. I hope your lungs are ok now.
| |
|
|
vonmac (1559) | 4 weeks ago | Well they said my lungs would never be the same again, But I started working out when I felt better and now 2 years down the line I feel fine and have never been ill again I dont really drink now either as I know I would be sure to smoke giggies if I did.

|
|
BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | That's been my downfall every time I've tried to quit so I'll stay away from the pub at the weekend. Glad your lungs have improved, smoking just isn't worth the risk of what you suffered.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thank you and yes I think quitting with a friend is a better way to do it. It's more of an incentive not to give in to the cravings.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thank you for the welcome and yes I plan to visit here as much as possible. I don't get much spare time due to my line of work but I had a free day today and spent some time here which I have enjoyed. I'm glad your wife managed to stop, I will let you know how I am progressing. Thanks again for your encouragement.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thank you. I do enjoy smoking, especially when I'm having a drink but I'm sure I'll enjoy the health benefits and financial benefits much more if I manage to stop completely.

thezone (1807) | 4 weeks ago | I know exactly what you mean, I used to love smoking and I still do miss it after all these months. Try not to drink as much, until the nicotine is out of your system that is the worst time, you really feel like you need a smoke.
| |
|
|
BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | That's true and I've found it out to my cost a few times. I'll try to stay away from pubs and from people who smoke and see how well I can manage.
| |
|
|
thezone (1807) | 4 weeks ago | But it can be hard staying away from the pub and all your friends. All my friends smoke so it was hard to keep away from it.
I did use the nicotine gum which helped but it was sheer willpower that helped me quit.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | I can imagine it being difficult if all your mates smoke. Some of mine do but not all of them. I'll try to at least stay out of the pubs for one weekend then I might find it easier to not be tempted. Let's see if I'm still a non smoker this time next week lol.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Luckily I'll be busy at the weekend so I might not be so tempted to go out but you never know. If I can get to the weekend without a smoke then I'll be all the more determined not to spoil it. Fingers crossed.

7. therisingsun (309) | 4 weeks ago | One can't quit doing anything unless he hate it. I never started smoking as I hated it a lot and till present moment, I hate it. To have something, we must find out flaws in it. So, you must concentrate towards the negetive features of the cigarette always. Like it produces smoke which means nothing. It may lead to burning of cloth piece if burning ash falls and so on. Just focus on them and may be this will help you out. Cheers

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thank you for your encouragement. I have looked at the positive health benefits and compared them to the negative aspects of smoking and it's given me determination to at least make a big effort to stop.

8. Pose123 (5684) | 4 weeks ago | Hi Bullet Tooth, Congratulations on making a very wise choice and I don't think you're cheating by using a nicotine inhalator, using anything that works for you is good. I quit seventeen years ago using a nicotine patch and have never smoked since, I know it was one of the best decisions of my life. Do whatever it takes and encourage your friend to do the same. When either of you get the urge to smoke, call the other person and have a chat as you can encourage each other. You will never regret having quit. Blessings.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Hi Pose and thank you for your encouragement. I tried patches oce but they didn't work for me. I think using the inhalator is a good substitute because of the hand to mouth motion. Congratulations for quitting, you did very well.

9. greenline (4125) | 4 weeks ago | Hello. Here is my story. I was a chain smoker for many years. I smoked two packs of cigarettes a day. My friends advised me to stop, but I didn't take their advice. I was a bad guy! But, then, one day, I started getting sore throat. Oh, that was really painful. I couldn't even drink water, leave aside solid food. I knew it was coming from smoking. So, I told myself I have to reduce smoking. So, one morning, I decided not to smoke for one hour. It was tough, but I made it. Oh! So, I told myself: "hey, you could stop for one hour. congratulations. go for another hour". I did! Wala! Two hours, big success! So, I said again: "you can do it. go for the whole day." Big succees, no smoking for one whole day! So, I finally told myself: "all you need is determination my boy. just decide to stop smoking forever." I DID THAT. And, it was gone!! Oh, after about twenty years of chain smoking, I got rid of it for ever in one day! Amazing! IT WAS ALL DETERMINATION! All my friends were so amazed! That's my true story, my dear friends!

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Well what can I say apart from well done! I'd love to give up completely because I sometimes get a sore throat and a tight chest in the morning and I have to be quite fit and healthy for my job. I've never been a regular chain smoker but when I'm out in a pub or at a party I do tend to smoke more. Lets hope your story encourages me, I can use it as an example of how it can really be done.

BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | Thank you for your encouragement. I agree with you, I will never understand why I decided to start smoking. It stinks, it makes us feel sluggish, it gives us a cough and even worse health problems and we pay money to do it. It just makes no sense.
