Where is the oddest place you have ever fallen asleep? |
|
When I was a teenager I was visiting my boyfriend at his home. We were in the basement making out while his parents were at work, or they were supposed to be. I was not suppossed to be there because we had skipped school. Suddenly, we heard the front door open. "Hide in the closet" said my boyfriend, "stay there until I come to get you". So I opened a closet door in the basement which was filled with winter coats and sport equipment and squeezed myself into the little space I could manage to eke out and proceeded to wait. Over an hour later my boyfriend finally returned to find me sleeping standing up. Apparently his father had not been feeling well and had come home for work. Laying on the couch to watch TV his father finally dozed off and BF came to sneak me out.
What strange situations and places have you fallen to sleep at? Did you get caught?

| 1. AlkaiserMO (96) | 2 months ago | In elementary school I fell asleep on the back of the school bus, and ended up at the local high school. My mom ended up pulling into the bus parking zone, in which case all the bus drivers started yelling at her. My mother being the terrible demon witch that she is, proceeded to curse out the bus drivers, stomp onto the bus, only to find me sleeping in the back of it. I love my mommy:)
All the best!

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | I use to travel a great deal for work when I was young and would ride the greyhound bus quite often. I was always afraid I was going to fall asleep and miss my stop but fortunately I never got into that deep a sleep.
Your mother sounds like my Mom, she would have cussed them all out too.

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | I saw that movie...yes he left me there for over an hour. He was afraid if he got caught they would ground him. We were young...long time ago. Kids feared their parents more than today.
That must have been frightening. I have always feared I would do that but never did. And so expensive. Glad it turned out alright though. You must have been in a deep sleep.

4. Hatley (21910) | 2 months ago | hi paintswithwords lovely user name. anyway I fell asleep on the bus and the driver had to wake me and tell me I had gone past my stop at Tempe,so I had to get back on the bus and go the other direction to Tempe. the bus only went from Phoenix to tempe then Mesa then turned around to go back to Phoenix. mesa was just a few miles further down the road than Tempe so it only took twenty minutes to get back to Tempe. I was working in Phoenix as a nurse's aide and living in Tempe. I really felt so foolish but the driver was kind and just amused at me. I had had a rough day and was really tired.

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | Buses seem to put a lot of people asleep. Reminds me of how I use to get my kids asleep when they were antsy. I would take them for a ride and the motion and air would put them to sleep. I have always feared I would do that but have always awakened just in time. I am glad your experience turned out alright and the driver was kind.

5. cloudwatcher (3491) | 2 months ago | I can easily imagine you in that cupboard! Didn't he get into trouble for skipping school, or was it only you who did that?
Nothing strange here, but I did sleep, many years ago, where I certainly wouldn't now. I'm going back 56 years to a time when it was safe to leave houses and cars unlocked and to camp on a road by yourself. Not so now!
I never stayed in the house for any longer than was absolutely necessary, so immediately after work I would hop on my motor bike or in the car and just keep going. I was safe there and no one could harm me.
At the weekends, I would ride or drive down the highway to the capital. It was then at least an 8 hour drive and some of it was dirt road. I would just drive round the main street of the city and head back again. Most weekends, when tired, I would pull into a rest area for a while. If I was on the bike, I would sleep on the wooden camping table there - no hassle.
Not an odd place, but not what I would consider doing these days.

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | That is a good question. I cannot remember why he was home. I know I had skipped to be with him. I think he may have gotten out earlier, but I do not recollect the details. I only recall him being so surprised to find me sleeping standing up. We had quite a laugh out of it for a long time.
I understand sleeping on the wooden table. several years ago getting ready for one of my moves, I had been up for nearly twenty hours. There was no furniture left in the apt, I was leaving in the morning. My huge office desk was staying for the new tenant and I just laid myself down on that wooden desk and went to sleep. Heather could not believe that I slept on the desk.
You were an adventurer...still kind of am. I remember that pic of you on the motor bike. I can just picture you sleeping on the wooden picnic table. Not sure how it is in Australia, but not safe here these days. I often use to sleep in rest stops when I was traveling. These days I make sure I pull off and rest while it is daylight and there is a lot of activity. Too dangerous at night which puts me in mind of another experience I may have to have a discussion.

| 6. Prabhalini (72) | 2 months ago | Mine what an adventurous teenage life you had.I don't fall asleep that easily in odd and uncomfortable places. For me to sleep,I need a cosy place.A place thats noise free & peaceful is a must for me.But my son is like you,he can fall asleep & start snoring any where like a train or in the classroom with ease

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | My youth was very tumultuous. After the teens I was homeless for a while and call fall asleep on a park bench or on a damp lawn. Now as I have grown older I find it hard to sleep if I am not comfortable unless I am totally exhausted. Then I can still sleep nearly anywhere. I think it is easier to fall asleep in odd places when you are young, don't you? Thank you for your response.

| 7. jaygami1986 (7) | 2 months ago | The oddest place i think i have fallen asleep is my back garden during summer. Now i dont mean a copuple of hours but rather the whole night, which is what really shocked me the most. London doesnt have the best summers to say the least but for some reason i fell a sleep the whole night, woke up the next morning and tried to find out how i got in my garden as i was sure i was in my bed.

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | Oh, that must have been a strange feeling. I have slept on a lawn before but knew I was laying down there. To have awoken and found yourself there must have been a spooky feeling. Do you reckon you must have been sleep walking and went to sleep there? Did you ever find yourself sleep walking again. My stepfather used to sleep walk and we would find him in other parts of the house. Strange.

8. luvmysons (328) | 2 months ago | I would have to say that when I was dating my husband I was at his office one night helping him with some work.. We were so tired that we ended up dozing off on the couch there and never woke up until the next morning when the other employees starting walking in for work.. Pretty embarrasing

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | Oh no, bet that brought a few cover the mouth chuckles from the workers. Did you find it hard to face the employees for a while? I would have been mortified. I can just picture that happening though. Too funny! Thank you for sharing that experience.

| 10. vinodcyber (25) | 2 months ago | I am from India. It was during one of my travel. My train got late, and so missed the connecting train. It was almost 11pm and had no other alternatives to reach my city. I remeber those were cold days of December and temperature was just 2 degree. No other options like hotel etc was available due to curfew outside. Next train was in morning 5am and so had to sleep on the bench at railway station. That was terrific experience.

paintswithwords (374) | 2 months ago | That is the kind of experience that you remember and tell your children and grandchildren. Brr, probably cold and uncomfortable. Was it spooky. Some train stations can harbor undesirables at that hour. But you fared it ok, I am glad. Thank you for sharing your experience.
