Returning to Further Education is a Better Way to Look for Work? |
|
If we have a chance to make a choice between a good job and further education, for most people, they may tend to choose a good job instead of education. In fact, it is obvious that people have no interests in study and tired of continuing their education any more.
But now, with the downturn of the economics, more and more people are becoming jobless. Although there is no great stigma associated with being laid off, most people want to hunt for a better job again. However, for keen competition, it is next to impossible for jobless people to find an approproate job.
So, at this time, people return to further education in order to look for job. What is your opinion about this phenomenon? Do you have some friends who are jobless return to education just wanting for a better job?

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | An additional feather on your cap?it is really an appropriate analogy.
Sometimes, perhaps returning to further education is becoming the last chance for jobless people to find a better job, especially during the downturn of the economics. If I have met such a so bad situation someday, I may tend to further education too even if I am tired of study.
Thanks for your reply.

msfrancisco9369 (2136) | 2 months ago | yes it is an additional "colored" feather on your cap--like having an award, exposure to international training and conferences, taking masteral and doctorate degree courses (further education as you termed it) and anything that will make you more bankable than the rest... thanks!

2. Sreekala (1819) | 2 months ago | Hi browser,
If a person wanted to study more a job won’t be a hindrance. She/he can study further with the job and there are many opportunities available now. If a person lost the job and return for education, it depends on the person’s financial background, if somebody there to help him/her then it won’t a matter otherwise I don’t think people will go for education instead of a job. The person will definitely look for a way of earning first then only think about further the education.

4. Buchi_bulla (2416) | 2 months ago | My relative wanted to pursue further education. She worked for two years during which period she did one distance education degree, saved some money and now she joined proper college to do another useful degree. After this she wants to do doctorate in that subject. I feel it is thoughtful action.

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | At present, it is a wiser choice to continue education and then try to find a better job.
If she want to hunt for job at first, perhaps she need to face various competition from many aspects, such as other jobless people, the graduates and so on.
Wish her success. Happy myLotting!

| 6. mac_fish (88) | 2 months ago | It's amazing for me to read this post(some of ur posts in fact),coz I can not find even slightest sign to figure out that ur native tongue is not English. Now back to ur point. I think I'm the one belongs to the crowd that will not continue education. Firstly,I'm a guy likes to face the reality,I take going back to school as a negative way to handle with the tasks that we encounter. Scendonly,I assume that walking on the common steps is one of expressions that show u are mediocre and piontless. SO,I'd rather fig out method to solve with it even that will trap me into another task.

If you are on you late 30's i think it would be quite too late to take further education since when you graduate you would be around your early 40's and i think most companies would not consider hiring someone who is nearing his/her retirement age. We also have to consider that some companies would not accept people who are overqualified for a certain position since they would not like to pay extra for a certain job where they could also just hire anyone to do the job and pay him/her a lower salary. It actually depends on the situation. I have even heard that some doctors even went back to school to train to become a nurse since they do not even earn enough income from being a doctor and they know that nurses even earn more than they do even if they already spent lots of time in school already.

8. dragon54u (9812) | 2 months ago | I think many people would go back to school and train for a new profession if they could afford it. When they were working, many people have just enough to get by and nothing extra for tuition. When they lose their job, they have no money at all and can't even make ends meet so where will they get money to pay for school?! It's a vicious cycle.
We had a "stimulus" that spent billions and we "saved or created" jobs--each of those jobs cost us taxpayers $230,000!!! Better to give out of work people that money to put them through school and support them as they learn, then we'll truly have improvement.

10. maximax8 (10835) | 2 months ago | When I was 20 years old I was working for a ship brokers as a container marketing controller. Sadly I was made redundant. So I let out my home and got a working holiday visa for Australia. Whilst there I worked as a children's nanny and I began dreaming about possibly becoming a primary school teacher. When I came home just over one year later I went into further education to get an A level in English Literature and a General Certificate of Education in Maths. Those qualifications and experience helping out at a primary school helped me get on to a degree course. I am now a primary school teacher. So therefore I would say further education can help someone that loses their job and has to move into a different field of work.
