foliculitis (think that's how it's spelt)

I'll tell you what helps me, it may now work for you too, but it worths trying.
1. If you shave or wax your legs, BEFORE doing it wash your legs with soap, that will kill a huge quantity of the bacterias that cause your folliculitis.
2. Don't apply any cream or lotion after shave.
3. creams, especially the oily ones only feed the bacterias so they usually are a waste of money
4. I found out that applying some mild disinfectant on the skin (not betadine, I mean MILD) like it was a lotion helps hugely.

Actually I fogot one I just remembered. Clay. Mix clay (you'll find that in herbalist stores) with plain water and make a semi-liquid paste.
Apply on the skin and let it dry. It really sorts my problems, just a couple of applications are enough for me. Apply it about twice per week.

I do not suffer with your complaint,i do suffer from psoriasis which i have also tried the same treatment as you to relieve the problem of the irritating with no success.I tend to bath in babyoil as i find that relieves the itching abit.I also hate the way my skin looks,as well as the itching that causes it tobecome very sore.

Hi doormouse! I think you need a second opinion. Besides the medicine prescribed has no effect on your ailment. Try consulting other doctors they might have better remedy for that. Good Luck!

I used to have tiny lumps on my legs and thighs, I just don't know if we have the same condition; and I got the same explanation from a dermatologist, that they are hair that can't come out of the skin. Sometimes they are itchy, but tolerable and I can actually ignore the feeling. It never bothered me that much, either because I got so used to it, or I grew out of it.

As long as there are no infections, you may try the following:

1. Apply oatmeal lotion or off the shelf hydrocortisone cream to help soothe itchy skin.
2. Avoid shaving irritated skin sites.
3. A wet compress made with white vinegar may help ease your folliculitis symptoms.

You may want to use an electric razor for your next shave which doesn't cut as closely as a razor blade does.

Depending on your skin's sensitivity, these may occur every now and then, it is just important to find the easiest and effective advocate to relief your discomfort, so as to speed recovery and prevent any spreading. You may also want to avoid taking seafood in your diet as they may increase your discomfort and infection.

need to take some antibiotics or anti fungal drugs.
