Why Can They Say It? |
|
O.K.I hope someone is with me on this one.
A while back I started a discussion about some of the curse words I had heard on USA Network.
I still continue to hear words I never thought I would even on daytime televsion.
What I do not understand is why music is still censored? If they can say it on television, why not in a song?

1. BulletTooth (190) | 4 weeks ago | I understand what you're saying. I think the reason for censoring songs is because the type of songs which contain swearing put across violent messages and are bought by young, impressionable kids. This is just my opinion. It surprises me that swearing is allowed on TV at all during daytime.

erikmama (1884) | 4 weeks ago | Ya know it has been so long I can not tell you what show it was now,but it was on the USA Network. It is not the only place I have heard it though, the b word amonst other thigs.(Never the F word or the real harsh ones). I think it is crazy for even that to be said at 6 at night on that network!

3. wmraul (576) | 4 weeks ago | There are 7 words you'll never hear on TV. All rest are to be taken as not quite offensive.
There is this guy, George Carlin (RIP) who named all, reasons and why some can be said anytime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Nrp7cj_tM

4. Louc74 (169) | 4 weeks ago | You'd be shocked if you came to Britain! Lol! Our TV personalities get away with saying almost anything after the watershed.
But the American personalities who are interviewed on Brit TV think it's hilarious, and take advantage of the novelty of getting away with things they wouldn't over there. Even heard the worst word (I think) in the English language, the C word being used more now.
Sad thing is, I'm pretty desensitised to it, as probably most British viewers are, so don't really notice it any more.

5. fruitcakeliz (846) | 4 weeks ago | i am assuming you are talking about the actual tv channel USA network?not just network tv in USA in general?
If so, than the reason they can get away with using slightly more vulgar language is because this is considered to be a CABLE station, not just a network station. You cannot get the USA network unless you PAY for a cable TV subscription, so they have much laxer rules than channels such as ABC, CBS or NBC (though even thouse have loosened up some over the years, but you still won't hear really HARSH language, even late at night)
this is also why you can hear these words on this tv station, yet they censor them out on the radio when you are listening to music. Radio stations are free for all to listen to, and hence they have to follow stricter rules when it comes to language that can be transmitted over the "free" airspace. If you were to subscribe to a satellite radio service (such as XM radio, or Sirius) you would hear the songs uncensored.
I guess they figure if ANYONE can listen to it/watch it, they have to limit it, but if you are paying a premium for the channels/service, then they can say what they want.

erikmama (1884) | 3 weeks ago | Yes,the USA Network.I think it is a lot of cable channels though, not just them.Even being cable back in the day I did not hear these words,so I am wondering why it is all of a sudden ok to say it/I have heard words on regular stations as well just nothing like on cable.

6. Hatley (19989) | 4 weeks ago | hi erikmama I really do not think curse words belong on television or in songs. thats downright ridiculous, our English language contains so many good words to describe anything, so why use curse words? Kids repeat what they hear in songs and on television so why not keep it clean for a change?

erikmama (1884) | 3 weeks ago | There are so mnany programs with curse words, and everyone knows how bad music is.My kids hear bad language(sorry)but as of now know better than to say it.It is just shiocking to hear it on televiion like this,as most people do not share my views on the language thing.
