Phoenix Suns 2009-2010  | | | |  Steve Nash is 35 and Grant Hill is 37 and these two seniors are actually leading the Suns right now. Amare Stoudemire seems not to be in his usual form yet but he's getting there. The main problem is that, aside from Nash and Hill's ages, the Suns are somewhat limited to a 6-man rotation. Nash, Hill, Stoudemire, Jason Richardson, Leandro Barbosa, and Channing Frye are the only players who are getting good number of minutes a game. Nash's reliever Goran Dragic and forward Jared Dudley are also getting a good share of minutes but they aren't that reliable that yet.
After all these years, I wonder why Steve Kerr haven't made anything to further improve the Suns. They are getting older and they are in fact losing their key players. First was Shawn Marion in exchange for Shaquille O'Neal which eventually turned out to be a bust. The Suns later lost Raja Bell and Boris Diaw, two key players who could at least provide the team a decent defense.
As a consolation, Richardson is doing quite well for the Suns but still can't compensate for the loses they had over the years. Frye on the other hand could be a 2009-2010 revelation. Playing as the Suns' main center, Frye have already surpassed his career high of three point shots made in a single season in just 3 games. He is averaging more than double his career average and because of the Suns very limited and shallow line-up, Frye's minutes are up and he's delivering quite well.
The Suns lack of size, shallowness of roster, age, and defensive mediocrity are ingredients for another early exit. Making it to the playoffs is possible but winning a playoffs series is kinda bleak with their roster. This could be Nash's and the Suns' run-and-gun and fun-an-gun's last hoorah! But nevertheless, for suer, it's gonna be exciting to watch. More high scoring games in store for the 2009-2010 season.
The Suns are sure to head to rebuilding next season. I just hope they keep Nash and Stoudemire.

| | Phoenix doesn't have a Fil-Am coach, it's the Miami Heat. It's Erik Spoelstra, he's actually a good coach. Speaking about the senior players, specifically Steve Nash and Grant Hill, they are actually doing quite well. In fact they are the ones leading the Suns right now and they are 4-0 as of the moment (4 wins and 0 losses). At 35, Nash is still obviously the leader of the Suns and he can still keep up with the younger players. Nash is a point guard while Michael Jordan is a shooting guard and I can't really put any comparison to both of them. Jordan is more of a scorer while Nash is more of a play maker but both are so effective in leading their teams. The problem with the Suns now is their very limited roster. 6 guys can't play at least 33 minutes a night for about 80 games. Considering Nash and Hill's age and Amare Stoudemire's condition (injury), playing too much might take it's toll. | |  The Suns have run a 6-7 man rotation for many years now. One of the criticisms on D'Antoni was that he was killing his regulars so that they were too tired come play-off time. That problem will be expounded with so many key players on the wrong end of 30. I'm convinced that anything short of the Western COnference Finals means Amare is sure to walk at the end of the season.
And as bad as the Shaquille O'Neal deal was, he actually had the best year he's had in a while statitstaclly. He finished in the top 20 alltime in single season blocks, points, and rebounds for a player over 36. The biggest challenge was that they had a team built to run anchored by a post-up man who needs the rock to be effective.
You're correct to blame Kerr for his mismanagement. He was able to retain Amare for now, but with all of their eggs in the old-folks basket and no exciting young talent, they will be a lottery team in 2010-2011.

| | Steve Kerr indeed has not done any major deal that helped the Suns improve. In my opinion, the best player that they've got since Kerr took over the GM seat was Jason Richardson and probably Channing Frye if he continues his impressive showing. Shaquille O'Neal was a big bust for the Suns as he was too unfit for the Suns' system, he slowed them down and was no longer an asset on defense as he used to be. It seems that the Suns aren't looking down at the free agency pool to at least deepen their line-up a bit. So far, the best Suns deals were made during the 2004 offseason where they got Steve Nash, Joe Johnson, and Quentin Richardson and also during the course of the 2004-05 season where they got Jimmy Jackson. After that, the Suns were declining season after season. Nash is aging so is Grant Hill and it won't take very long before these guys retire. Amare's status with the Suns remains doubtful and so is the Suns' future.
