It's just mylot - don't need to get your blood pressure up |
|
I've been on here for a few months only but I can't help but notice how defensive people get when they get a response from someone who doesn't agree with their point of view.
First of all, I do understand that once you put your questions or answers up here, you should be ready to get responses, whether or not they are in your favor. So, with that said, I don't really see any reason to jump on someone who doesn't agree with you. I also don't see any point in being rude, either.
As far as intellect goes, yes, why not share some of your wisdom? But at the same time, trying to "look smart" by making another person "look dumb" isn't a nice way of going at it. You just end up looking like a real idiot, no matter how smart your post is.
This is just the internet. I tend not to take these things seriously because after all, we're all just "names" with no faces here so to speak. It just irks me to see how mean people can be.
Let's just have fun folks.

1. mysdianait (12141) | 1 month ago | While I completely agree with the point you are making I have to disagree on one point. We are not 'just names' at all. Over time we get to know each other here and indeed many of us become friends offline. I don't make friends with 'names' but with people becuase behind each username is someone typing from a computer and that is a person not a robot. Those who come across as 'just names' are not the majority of users here I'm sure.
The whole point of myLot is to discuss and it should be obvious that we will not all have the same opinion and I agree that there is no need to make others look dumb when their opinion differs. Who says their opinion is wrong anyway as all opinions are valid and we all have the right to air them, especially here.

rg0205 (1710) | 1 month ago | I dont undermine the value of each person so I wasn't saying "just names" in the literal sense.
What I am trying to imply is, for the majority of us here, our true identities remain anonymous. I wasn't implying that people here are robots.
I just think that, well, even if we're not going to get together at the end of the day or see each other in person in this lifetime, that doesn't mean we should be mean to one another. Just a thought.
Thanks for the response.

rg0205 (1710) | 1 month ago | It's interesting how some people get their kicks in doing that. Actually, the funny thing is, I know a couple of friends who get online and curse at people "just for fun". They create dummy accounts here and there in social networking sites and take their frustrations out on those unsuspecting people.
Thanks again for the response:-)

| 2. blondexkitty (43) | 1 month ago | I've been a member of many different message boards, and I have to say that it doesn't matter where you go on the Internet, there will always be people who take it way too seriously. I myself am guilty of that at times. But I look at it this way - on myLot, the more people discuss things (or argue about things) the more people earn.:)

rg0205 (1710) | 1 month ago | Hehe, your response made me snicker a bit. Yes, people here argue about things to earn money, too. I suppose in this case, you don't need to be a lawyer to be paid to argue.
Good point though. We're all guilty got getting irked by something someone said online.

4. rosekiss (4329) | 1 month ago | You know, there are sre some that just like to cause troube for others, and they are the one ones that will argue and try to get in the last word. This is a place where we do have the right to voice our opinion, whether right or wrong. We need to respect each ohters opinion, and if we don't agre with them, then that is fine, but we sure shouldn't nmake a big deal of it. I know that I don't agree with eveything I read in here, but others do have a right to their own opinion. The day I can't express myself, that is the day, I will stop living, as it is a part of life that we are going to disagree in one form or another. We just need to let others express theres, and not go all crazy on them, and start trouble. This is ust to nice a place to do that, as we should all get along. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Yes, there are some people who will argue until they get the last word. I tend to just leave them hanging because at the end of the day, I know I won't be able to change their opinion and they won't be able to change mine. It's just a matter of agreeing to disagree respectfully.
Happy mylotting.

6. oXAquaXo (252) | 1 month ago | I agree. People get WAY too hyped up on Mylot. The other day, I responded to a discussion on abortion. Yeah. A lot of people get EXTREMELY emotional over that issue. So there, of course, were tons of responses, and people were arguing about each others' opinions, which I think is dumb. People are entitled to their own opinions, so there's nothing you can do about it. This is just a place where you can talk about whatever you want to talk about, not read whatever you want to read.

rg0205 (1710) | 1 month ago | When it comes to issues like that, (Abortion), a lot of people are passionate about it. I don't blame them, really, but I hate it when they try to force their opinions. For me, I think along the lines of "I hear you but I don't agree with you." Arguing is pointless. You can only try to reason so far. I am pro choice and I dont jump at people who are against it. My family is and I don't go for their jugular.
Thanks for your input.

10. astonysh (1824) | 1 month ago | I would agree that having fun is part of this.
At the same time when having a serious debate on some issues (look how many postings you get on abortion for example), there are a lot of sensitivities involved.
My approach is to try and stay balanced and reasoned - everyone has the right to an opinion, but that opinion may be amended in some respects if alternative arguments are presented. If you are presented with a different side of the argument that you had not considered for example.
There is a learning process involved. Even at my age, I can learn something new. I am, for example, an atheist, but I am more knowledgeable about some aspects of Islam, which members of the (less fanatical) Muslim community on MyLot have been kind enough to explain to me. I have not been converted, but I have a greater understanding.

rg0205 (1710) | 1 month ago | You sound like a very wise person. I think more people should have your train of thought. A lot of people are quick to judge and so they tend to become unreasonable instead of staying balanced and keeping an open mind.
Learning is a life long process but only a few choose to live life with that mentality. Thanks.
