I too have come across this rumor and it is not true and no one have ever done that. As owlings said, the co-worker just would have spread a false news on this regard. In our bank system the statement came to all the account holders that it was not true....

I actually don't know whether this tip is true or false but then, I rarely use the ATM machine anyway. What I do instead because it is a bit safer is use my debit card when I shop the majority of the time. If I know that I am going to need cash at some point during that day or the following day, I will add to the total at the store and take cash out with my purchase. This way I never find myself at an ATM machine after it is dark. I feel much safer doing things this way.

busted! but i guess some mylotters do have a strong photographic memory with regards to tips. that would have worked but there is a flaw in this tip, what if the criminal instead prefer "you" should give use the credit card and withdraw money so that he/she would be sure that the money is received. that trick is old, my advice is Don't bring cards on holidays, nor go out to withdraw, maybe bring a ton of family members to cover you up when you withdraw. better yet, just put your money under your shoe (shoe should be old and rusty) or underwear (money should be in plastic). .

Hi,thanks for suggestion and sharing the experience.Fortunately in India,there is no recession effect,even traces are there here the joint family system suppot them in terms of money,shelter,food ..everything..so there is no relation to recession and crimes.
In general those are occur and we will be careful after reading your experience.

not panic and run away. the best idea is not to use
the atm machine unless its direct daylight and a lot of
other people are around, don't go alone after dark, better
to risk that at all.

With the slump of the economics around the world, the crime rate is increasing all the time and it seems that we have to face various dangers, expecially in such a coming holiday. When it comes to your tips, I have to say that I haven't seen such a great tip when we meet the robbers. Well, the most secure thing that people have to remember is basically to be careful whenever withdrawing and avoid doing that unless you have made sure that the place is secure. Prevention is still the best way to save yourself!
