Have you ever cracked or chipped a tooth on something? |
|
Apparently I cracked a tooth (molar) on a blowpop. I felt a mild pain when it happened, but it didn't last, so I happily finished chomping on the blowpop and chewed on that yummy gum in the middle. I thought nothing of it for several days. Then a few days ago I started to feel some soreness on one of my molars. I couldnt figure out what it was. I had just been to the dentist a few weeks ago and was fine. I finally figured out what it was, that evening and decided to call the next day to make an appointment (this was Tuesday night). So yesterday, I call. I was actually considering making the appointment for Friday, but thought better of it and chose Thursday. It wasn't bothering me that much at the time. Well, of course, a few hours after I made the appointment it got a little worse. Then worse.... Last night it was pretty unbearable. It's not so horrible right now. I've never been so eager to go see my dentist!
My son chipped his tooth a couple years ago. It was somewhat traumatic for him until we got it fixed.
I also know two girls who had their teeth knockedo out or broken. One of them was pretty upset when it happened. Of course they got them fixed and are doing okay now. The two girls are softball players that play with my daughter and both of them had this happen during games.
Have you ever had a similar experience. Was it painful or upsetting? How quickly was it resolved?

1. mentalward (4370) | 2 months ago | I cracked a tooth on a hamburger. Yes, it hurt! The thing was, it didn't hurt constantly. I could go days with no pain, then, quite suddenly, it would reappear. Months later, I finally went to the dentist because I thought I might get an abscess and there's no way I ever want another one of them! I had to have a root canal and a crown put on that tooth.
$1,500.00 for one tooth! Those dentists know how to take advantage of our pain, that's for sure. I know they make tons of money, even though they'll tell you that their overhead is quite expensive. My mother was friends with our dentist and we went to their house every now and then for barbeques and stuff. That man had MONEY!!!
There's something you can buy at pharmacies or where they sell teeth supplies that sometimes will take the pain away for up to a month. I can't remember the name of it but I used it on another tooth until I could afford to go to the dentist and it really did work! You have to put this thing on your tooth 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off three times. I'll swear by it!
I hope your problem is resolved quickly. I know all too well (and all too recently with my son) what tooth pain can do to a person!

miamilady12 (152) | 2 months ago | My dentist referred me to on Oral Surgeon. I get to go there today. In the meantime, it doesn't hurt as much but my face has swollen up. It looks pretty hideous. The dentist also prescribed an antibiotic for me to take, which I began taking yesterday.

2. dawnald (10373) | 2 months ago | I was eating something about 3 years ago and a piece of tooth broke off. Fortunately it was easily fixed. I think they just kind of smoothed it down. It wasn't enough off the tooth to cause any trouble.

5. grandpa_lash (1723) | 2 months ago | Well yes, but perhaps not in the way you are talking about. I suffer bipolar, and back when I still had teeth, I got very depressed one day, and decided to commit symbolic suicide. I grabbed an air rifle, cocked it (but didn't load it, shudder), stuck it in my mouth and pulled the trigger. You want a perfect example of a high IQ idiot? I rested the butt on the floor, and the resultant recoil chipped a perfect circle into the side of one of my front teeth. I found this so hilariously ironic that I immediately fell out of my depression, went out to the pub, scored a chick for the night (and about three more years of nights afterward), and completely messed up my depressive/manic cycle lol. I never did bother to get it fixed, figuring that it would be a wonderful reminder that all is never lost.

miamilady12 (152) | 2 months ago | You always have an interesting story to tell!
My son's chipeed tooth was also a result of an air gun. Although in his case it was not self inflicted. I friend shot him in the mouth. Of course they weren't supposed to be aiming at eachother's faces! Boys will be boys I suppose?

6. thea09 (4908) | 2 months ago | Hi maimilady, yes I went through the horror of a chipped front crown a month or so back and it took 10 days to get it replaced at horrendous expense. (Re your F/R you really have to read the guidelines first about responding on your own discussions, just a tip).

miamilady12 (152) | 2 months ago | Can you explain further. I'm not sure what I did wrong... F/R?

miamilady12 (152) | 2 months ago | Okay. Thanks. I wasn't sure what you were referring to. I've been more focused on replying to other discussions than to cultivating my own, I guess. I did read the replies to my discussion, but I'm guessing I didn't feel I had anything worthwhile to add. I'll check them out again and see if I can come up with something. Thanks for the tip.
