Good price for a laptop?

Believe it or not, your local Pawn Shop might be the most inexpensive alternative to buying something brand new. Most Pawn Shops will only purchase systems that work. I have seen high dollar equipment at pawn ships in my area for 1/3 the retail price brand new. Just another option you have.

You will find that a desk top is sturdier than a lap top. Plus desk tops are easier to work on and upgrade. The lap top I offered you was totally fried by the wine that the dog managed to dump in it. I wouldn't send you something that isn't in really good shape...I just found the information out from the shop that I took it to. Now I am looking at selling it for parts or project on Graig's list.

I really recommend a desk top since they do seem to last longer and are so much easier to upgrade. A laptop's parts are more expensive to replace, as in the hard drive would be around $100 for a desk top and it would be double or triple that for a laptop. If you check with computer shops in your area, there are desk tops that can be found for around $75 to $125. Also they will stand behind their work. With the new models coming out, everyone is anxious to upgrade so you can find them for a smaller amount. I bought my desk top for $60. I needed to replace the modem and it only cost me $10 total because it is so easy to do the work myself. Also, if you need one component, such as the keyboard, you don't have to take the whole computer into the shop...you just get the new one and plug it in.

Also, check with the local schools and college and see if they are upgrading and getting rid of their desk top units. You may get one cheap enough that it won't cost that much more to have it checked out by your computer people.

It sounds like what the husband is removing is the modem (or the wifi if it's a wireless modem) and $60 is just for the card and not for the installation. Plus you can't be too sure that his removing the card or inserting the new one will NOT cause damage to the rest of the computer. Plus, it also depends on the brand of lap top. By the time you get done paying for the computer, putting in the new card etc you could get a net book that you can use both for the internet plus writing your story and saving it on the flash.

I hope I've helped a little bit. It is such a tough decision. Another thought, is that the holidays are coming up and parents will be buying their children new computers and selling the old ones. Honest people will have them set up and running when you check out the unit that they are trying to sell.

I don't know about that, if that cheap, you might need to consider what they have within the laptop. You must ask carefully before you made your decision. I would rather be careful even though she is your friend. It is possible to get a cheap PC, but that cheap, I won't know about it.

can you reformatte this lap top? This would restore it back to like new. this is what i would do . most lap tops now come with a card inside it so this one must be old and slow i would not buy it at all at this point.
