It's not surprising considering where the stimulus is flowing. Of course he also quickly switched his course from x jobs will be created to x jobs will be saved and created. I put x, because the number keeps changing. The funny part is 'saved' can never be verified.

A lot of the jobs 'created' were also just very temporary. Some just for a day or so. That doesn't help unemployment numbers. I tell you, if they would have handed the stimulus money to the people and TARP, too, everything would have turned out better. People would have been able to save their houses, spend some money, save some money, even buy a new car. Nope, just the big companies and banks get the money.

Isn't that what the Democrats claim the Republicans always favor? Big business.... it's just same old same old in Washington no matter what party is in charge... I didn't know that change meant the extra couple of bucks in my paycheck each month that is already by far exceeded by price increases in the store... spare change. That's all we got. I guess it's better than nothing... but not the change people expected.

He is already campaigning for his re-election... as disillusioned as people are it'll take some real magic this time, not just smoke and mirrors;)

Well, quite frankly, I wasn't surprised. I mean, how many times in the last few months has he said something that wasn't true? You only really know when the results come out later but I am interested in seeing how they're gonna sugar coat this one.

That's the only saving grace of the Obama administration and probably more than half the reason he or any other liberal Democrat was even elected in the first place.

Okay, I'm willing to give up on the FACT that Bush was FAR FROM THE ONLY PERSON who had a hand in this mess and just say, for the sake of argument, that it was 110% all Bush's fault! There! It's Bush! Why? Because it's moot; it's fodder; it's pointless blame.

Now we get on to the business of correcting the problem that exists NOW...

Proper solutions make the problem better. Proper solutions do not make the problem worse.

You know it's a failed policy when you have to use the false statistic of jobs "saved" as the high water mark of the stimulus.

I'm sorry, but America thrives on jobs created -- the private sector, small business! Are we supposed to find relief in the fact that, without Obama and his administration of economic saviors, we'd have a 15% unemployment rate? Is that what they're trying to sell people? It's insane.

I know the the Reagan-esque philosophies and the liberals' wealth redistribution philosophies are at opposite polls, but every fool can see that one works and the other flat-out does not.

People who believe in wealth redistribution and other liberal economic blunders have my full support to believe it until the cows come home. It's their right. But it's all failed ideas just retried on a larger scale. Look, there's no shame in admitting it. Nobody's going to rub it in your face. America just isn't setup to run a socialist-like system or any type of huge/debt spending system. It's not. America needs wealth created through goods and services, not wealth through more debt, ghost money and my children's tax dollars.

Maybe they could force it to, but they'd have to completely ruin every American earner's dreams and crush their savings in order to acheive a big enough disaster to implement that sort of change. And by the time they get around to doing that, someone will have taken them far the hell away from any sort of office, by vote or by force.

It's not America.

That figure is not accurate. It doesn't take into account all the people who have settled for part time jobs, given up looking or who are employed as Walmart stockers when they used to be engineers or other higher paying jobs. It also doesn't take in the first-time job seekers who haven't been able to get a job. Most of the economists I've read say to double the number the government publishes and you'll have a fairly accurate unemployment figure.

Don't they all tell things and make promises to do something to get into the office. Once there then it is a whole new ball game for us. Companies out here are not releasing the call to hire workers yet. I wonder what he is thinking now.

well, no stimulus bill here in canada but the powers that be are shocked that unemployment is up as high as it is here in canada. i wish we would have gotten some money from the government, it would have sure helped! (hubby lost his job in august!)

Okay call me a conspiracy theorist but....... what happens when you can't find a job? You go on welfare. What happens when you go on welfare? You are dependent on the government to support you. What does a Socialist government do? Supports all the people. See the trend? The unemployment rate is exactly where Obama wants it. It will continue to rise so that more and more people are on the government payroll. Obama is doing exactly what he promised - fundamentally changing the USA. Hope those that voted for him and happy with the results.

It would take a while for the economy to bounce back just as it took years for the economy to fall. Remember that humans make projections and could be right or wrong as there are never a 100% accurate if no they will not be called projections. What needs to be done is support the Government

Don't pay much attention to the number of the jobless rate. It's really not surprising indeed.

With the financial crisis, various problems appear and all people have to face the difficult situation. Not only in your country, you see, in my country, China, the government has claimed that they have taken many measures to improve the life of citizens. However, there are still no indication that show that the economics is getting better. What we can only see is that more and more becoming jobless.

Perhaps what we can do is just to work hard and don't count on the relief fund.
