Early Jehovah Witnesses email this discussion to a friend?

I have been trained since I was very young to ignore anyone knocking on the door on saturday mornings... that was when the jehovah witnesses would go door to door spreading their beliefs and literature... On a few occasions my mother or father would open the door and debate theological points with them (we are baptist)... but 9 times out of 10 we would just watch them from the front window and go back to making noise once they went to the next door... well, this morning i was attempting to take a mid-morning nap after sending my older 2 kids off to school, feeding the younger 2 and checking over the workbook page the 3 year old did (learning to write the numbers 1-30) when i hear a light knock at the door.. i ask who it is (through the door) and someone says something but i can't hear them very clearly because the children's movie Brother Bear is blaring at the moment. I look through the peephole in the door and i don't recognize anyone and no one is wearing a FedEx, UPS or USPS uniform. I pause the movie and then ask who it is again (still through the door) and was told that they were believers who wanted to talk with me and share Awake with me... knowing that jehovah's witnesses pass out the Awake pamphlets I kindly tell them "no thank you. i'm not interested."

When did they start knocking on doors a day early?? Have they been knocking on doors on friday and i am just now noticing or what??

lol...I never gave it a thought that they had a specific day when to go door to door. It's possible those that went on Saturdays is because they worked during the week, or they could catch more people home on Saturdays, since most like those people were working. But in this economy, half the country is out of work, therefore more people are available to go door to door, and catching more home during the week. Our local Jehova's used to come on Sunday.

I give them credit for trying to get people to have faith, unfortunately they have the wrong translation for us to believe what they do.

i didn't think about that (more people being out of work and at home)... valid point!

I didn't know there was a specific designated day for them to go door to door...as far as I can tell there actually isn't one. I dated a JW a few years ago (although not a very devout one at the time) and his mother said the woman and children were supposed to be going out on a daily basis door to door, not just once a week. Where I live though, in my development, we don't get very many JW's. When we did have them, I really don't think they came on Saturdays, though I do believe it was late afternoon/early evening when they came to hand out their literature.

They do it on Thursdays here for some reason. I used to be friends with quite a few Jehovah Witnesses when I was in my early twenties and they were the most confused people that I have ever met! confused

I am not one to go around putting down peoples religious views as I believe that people should be allowed to believe whatever they want. But I do not like that they push it onto people by intruding on their personal time at home! thumbdown

All of the Jehovah Witnesses that I used to hang around with were living secret double lives! They were acting like immature teenagers away from their strict families as I think they were too scared to act up when they were young, but now when they were in their twenties, they felt like rebelling against their religion, but would do it away from anyone who was in that religion.

They would still put on their best clothes and go to their church on Sunday and go out door knocking on Thursday, but then they would be out getting drunk and being hoons in their cars with everyone else...lol

I lived with one of them for a year and he had a girlfriend who was not in their religion. She lived with us too and was there most nights, but he would not allow her too keep any of her belongings there, just in case some of his family turned up to visit! She would have to return to her mothers house each morning to get herself ready for work!

They are a strange lot if you ask me! lol

I did not know that Saturday was the day they knock on doors. They have come to my house during the week and I answer the door they give me there paper. I usually tell them I have to get back to something and just say thank you and shut the door. Sometimes though I peep out my window to see who it is and just do not answer the door just depends on what mood I am in.

They can come to your door any day any time unless you tell them you do not want them coming back they will continue to try to convince you. However some of them aren't bad my grandmother was a Jehovah Witness as is a few of my freinds we talk about God but I will not be converting I am happy being an anglican.

Jehovah witnesses visit our area at the weekends, generally on a Saturday morning. I had a chat with them once but that has been it. I have an intercom system so it's easy to avoid having face to face contact. They normally leave some reading material in my mail box. I respect them in as much as they are just doing their job but I have no interest in the theology side of things. I believe in being polite to everyone regardless of what they believe in. I know some people really get angry with them and slam the door in their face and things like that, this is downright nasty! Still, I have to say they look very smart when they walk the streets on Saturday mornings! Andrew

here in our place they don't have specific days but they usually knock during sunday usually after there assembly. I am a christian and I don't believe on what they are believing. We are humans after all we have different beliefs in life so stick on the things you believe.

I didn't know they had a schedule for that. I know my door used to get knocked on far too often by them and it was never a good time. I find their door knocking to be in poor taste, rude and an all around turn off any time of the day or night. They usually are very sweet and polite but so are many people....doesn't mean I care to have them interupting my day to tell me how they feel. Nothing against their religion at all. I just think the whole door knocking thing is very rude and disrespectful of the persons privacy. I feel the same about door to door salespeople as well. The only ones that I have a soft spot for are the kids rasing money.

When I was still in elementary my family always encounter Jehovah's Witnesses every saturday (afternoon and sometimes morning) coming house to house. We are Catholic and we still welcome people (even with different religion) who comes in good purpose. My grandmother didn't debate/argue with them, they just have some chat and of course later on hand those pamphlets (I guess it's free) and I always take a look and sometimes read it as well. I've even tried once joining their worship, but didn't convince me to leave my religion.

I did not know they had one specific day however I do know that they usually have an area that they patrol that is designated to certain individuals. I also believe that Saturday is their Sabbath is it not, so that is when most individuals are not working and are available to go doorknocking or what they call witnessing.

I think the only way to stop them from knocking on your door is to put a big sign up there no Jehovah's Witnesses. I have a sign on my front door that say this no soliciting but that does not seem to stop them as they consider their witnessing is not soliciting.

I do not think there are any rules about which day they go witnessing.

I frequently have to have enough during the day because I am not well and there is nothing more frustrating than being woken up, that is why I have a sign out front. I also put the sign up because my mother was disabled and by the time she hobbled to the door she would be in pain and she could not say no. Unfortunately she passed away but I hope she is in Heaven without the ministering of various religious groups that think they have the answers and a pipeline to God.
