|
Well guys, many of has the habit of studying while laying on their bed. Let me tell you its really not the way one should study. We must study in Sitting posture and it has a reason, a scientific one. But what actually the way you use to study at home?

1. merlinsorca (441) | 3 weeks ago | Yes, I usually study while in a sitting position. Because I need the books to be on the desk, so it makes sense to do it that way. I can't imagine how anyone could study while lying down on the bed.
And, I have a question for you: What exactly is this scientific reason? I am curious.

clorissa123 (3513) | 3 weeks ago | I think the scientific reason more likely related to your eye vision. Because you are lying down while reading your book, not much lights come in, or other reason related to your eye sight. Also, it would be easier for you to memorize what you had read from the books.

therisingsun (309) | 3 weeks ago | Hi merlin! nice tried clorisa. But I don't know about it. If I ask you to sit in sunlight, even then also you won't get to remember what you read for a long time. What actually happens is when we really enjoy reading while laying and it feels like We're very comfortable but with this there is a fact. Imagine a cylinder in your brain, a narrow hollow cylinder with about 60% full of cerebral fluid, a liquid in our brain for transportation of oxygen and glucose to the brain cells. Now when we study putting our head straight, what we study get stuck only to the area where the fluid is present. In same posture, when we try to recall, we may do it soon. But in laying posture, that cylinder gets in horizontal position, now what you study, gets memorizes on the surfaces which are nearer to the top of fluid and then, if we try to recall the things in vertical posture, we can't as that was saved in those parts of cylinder where now fluid is not in touch. Its too simple but may be complex hypothetical but logical thing. When we lay down, we feel nice because the surface area increases and we get the things faster.

2. clorissa123 (3513) | 3 weeks ago | I heard about it, and my mom always advised me to be in sitting posture while I am reading books and other reading materials. I listen sometimes, but sometimes, I felt so lazy, I simply laying down on my bed, and kept on reading. But not much go into my brain this way though. So, you are right.

| 3. AliaVakar (5) | 3 weeks ago | I think it's harder to study lying down because your body is preprogammed to enter resting mode when it's in that posture. I can't get a thing done after the first five minutes of lying down! I think it's much better to work sitting at a table where you can spread everything out and buckle down.
| |
| |
|
|
therisingsun (309) | 3 weeks ago | Even my table remains full of papers and books and pens and all that stuff, spreading on the table in such a way that if I want to study, I need to clean the space enough for a book to get open, but I study on my table only.

5. bucketkid (153) | 3 weeks ago | the majority of my study is active so i have to do it sitting at a desk. if i lie on my bed, i dont really take much in as i am relaxing and not focusing. because i dont just read notes during study, i write, highlight and mindmap, it is difficult to do lying down and by sitting and focusing, i can absorb so much more information.
| |
| |
|
|
therisingsun (309) | 3 weeks ago | Its true, we can read the things but can't use marker or pen while laying down, so due to this habit, you must be in sitting and infact, in an active posture.

| 6. vishnuparayil (46) | 3 weeks ago | I use to read books for fun by lying down in bed and serious studies by sitting ... I think sitting and reading is the best way to study.. From my experience I know that while lying down our entire body sends to the brain signals for being relaxed and the brain in turn helps relax your nerves, muscles and mind.. This will make you less concentrated in what you are reading and your mind may wanders.. While sitting straight the blood circulation is maximum and your nerves are energized.. You get maximum concentration also.. The best time to read is early morning(about 4am) rather than late night.. In morning your body will be at the most energized condition after the rest. During late night hours your body will be weak and needs rest. Your efficiency will be more at morning.

| lameraxis (35) | 3 weeks ago | oh thanks for sharing! I was always looking for accurate and detailed explanation on why you shouldn't study lying down! This also explains why i get higher scores in exams by studying from 4am onwards rather than staying up the whole night!
| |
|
|
therisingsun (309) | 3 weeks ago | Thanks for such a nice explanation. Well thats true that studying in early morning really leads us to good score but I never studied from 4am, rather, I studied till 4am. And I get good result, may be its my habit now. See my explanation also for why not to study while laying down on the bed.

| vishnuparayil (46) | 3 weeks ago | Nothing is impossible if you try hard... And studying late is easy for some and morning is better for others. I feel it more effective to read at morning.. Thanks.

8. starscream (321) | 3 weeks ago | Michele reeche posted in his product that sitting position is helpful to determine the reading speed. I want to improve the reading speed so i prefer posture. But i can read easily and comfortably with moderate speed while laying on bed or on sofa. When i want to read i just go on with reading instead of looking at posture. Maybe time consuming some times but when you have limited resources for reading then it doesn't matter.
| |
| |
|
|
therisingsun (309) | 3 weeks ago | Reading something at high speed is something very different issue. Always quick reading can't lead us to understand the things properly, I am not talking about just reading the words, I'm talking about speed of understanding the things behind the words which is very different than reading. And thats what I explained in my comment to the first response. Reading is fine but studying the things while laying in bed is not adviced.

| 10. muzaandwyna (35) | 3 weeks ago | The bed should only be associated with sleeping or with making love. Studying while lying on your bed is never a good practice since it could ruin your biological clock. It can also lead to bad posture, eye and muscle strain, and the like. I would recommend the sitting while studying, provided that it is in a place very much conducive to learning.
