Yes of course, you can buy any printer as long your HP computer has the USB port which I'm sure it has, all new printers support atleast windows XP so I don't think you will have this incompatibility problems. I think it is better if you look for HP printers too since it is better if you will have one make system .

It has nothing to do with your computer being HP, Its windows XP, OS that matters. You will see it on the printer if it is Windows XP compatible. Usually all printers are compatible with windows XP. My suggestion is try to look for a printer that will be compatible with Windows 7, so your printer can still be use once you upgraded to windows 7, Coz not all printers are compatible with the new windows, i have had reports that windows 7 is very popular, i used it to, it is great, a must have for everybody, my problem is my printer Cannon does not work on Windows 7.

ok i forgot something, look for a printer that has a toner, it cost a little more but you can print quality picture with that machine. the idea here is the more number of ink colors a printer uses, the more its printing is enhanced. Epson makes the best printers. Go for the six color ink of Epson that has toner and smudge resistant printing.

I think most printer brands can be used with any computer as long as there's a driver and the accompanying cords. To be safe, ask for advice from the technician of the store where you will be buying your printer from.

Make sure too that the printer you buy has a warranty so you can exchange it with another one in case it doesn't work with your PC.

My sister and I have different computers. Both computers have Windows XP installed. We also both have HP printers though different models. So far, we like HP printers because these haven't failed us yet.

When you look at the printers, there is an area that has the system requirements. Included in the system requirements is the operating systems that it will interface with. I have a computer that has the XP operating system and have had a heck of a time finding a printer to interface with it. I had spotted on at Wal Mart and asked the clerk if it would work with XP. He read the box and stated "YES" so I bought it. I tried to install the driver and the computer wouldn't accept it as the operating system requirement was "Windows XP sp". I called a computer geek friend of mine and he informed me that I would have to upgrade my windows to that OS if I wanted the printer to work with the computer. So the printer went back and I checked each printer box until I found one that would work with Windows XP. I finally found a Canon printer that would work.

One piece of advice, don't go with Epson or Lexmark. The Epson printer I bought decided that it wouldn't use the ink cartridges that were for the unit...now it is sitting collecting dust. Lexmark has computers that mix their own "black" ink. The black color is NOT a true black and it doesn't print clear and crisp. I would stick with either HP or Canon.

all printers are compatible with all computers. however some high end printers require some minimum system requirements. but since your computer runs xp, you should not have any problem. you only need to install the drivers properly which you will get on a CD along with your printer.

I think just about any printer will work as long as the printer comes with the drivers (software that allows the device to interact with windows xp operating system)so I owuldnt worry too much about printer type just ensure that you get the right drivers .I hope I was some help and I hope you get a good printer

I used to run an HP computer, but a few years ago changed to a self-build one from a local computer builder. I have had many different printers but I've got to say that the best printers I have used are Canon. I have a very old one, still working but slower than the modern ones - so that demonstrates to me how reliable Canon is. I find the print quality is superior to other makes even even the Epson that I found pretty good. I currently run a Canon iP4300 in Windows XP, which produces superb results. This printer is a good few years old, and I am not sure if it is still being made. But I am sure, that the latest Canon is just as good, if not better. happy - Derek

A HP to get along with a HP is usually good but I do have a assembled desktop for the last 2 years and I am using a hp printer, scanner and copier a 3 in 1 and it worked fairly well, now that the ink is over I have kept it locked and not using it as I do not have enough space to keep it...happy
