How Much Money Would it Take to Make you Happy? |
|
Imagine that you've just won the lottery. The amount hasn't been determined. Part of the deal with this hypothetical lottery is that you get to chose the amount that you are paid out. How much would it be to make you happy?
For us, I would be perfectly happy with $100,000 dollars. The reason that I chose this amount is that it would be enough to pay off all of our debt and to buy a new car as well. We would be able to start fresh and hopefully never find ourselves in debt again.

1. merlinsorca (439) | 3 weeks ago | I think I would need much more than $100,000. Of course, that amount would be enough for me to live a comfortable life without having to worry much about things, but I would also want to use some of the money to fund space exploration .
So, I might need several hundreds of billions of dollars. Maybe about $957,000,000,000.12 I get to keep a small fraction of this amount, maybe $200,000 or so. The rest would be used for research on new propulsion systems
Seriously, I would do this.

2. danitykane (748) | 3 weeks ago | I think $100,000 is enough for me to support my family. That is a lot of G's! That is like 4,700,000 in peso when converted. But I would still love to have like $500,000 since it is free to dream ...haha! I would be so happy because I will pay our debt, and we are going to have a new house and a new car. Everything is new. Hehe!
Happy Lotting!

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | One of the great things about the human mind is that we are free to dream. I could easily dream about having more money than I would know what to do with it, but I've always been a very simple person so the main thing that I dream about is to be out of debt.

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | Oh, I realize this more than perhaps a lot of people. I've lost many people that I loved and I've also had the opportunity to experience having a decent amount of money and also having nothing and I will be honest, for me I feel like I am happier when we have no money than when we have money to burn.

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | I too very much agree with you, if I had tons of money at any point in my life I would also take a lot of it to donate to the charities that I support. The first one on my list would be a charity that gives toys to children that are in the hospital called Jarrett's Joy Cart because the little boy that founded this charity years ago was a student in a Sunday School class that I taught when I was a teenager and he was the most thoughtful little boy that I've ever met. He was truly an inspiration to me, I only wish that he could have lived a full life because I'm sure that as his life went on he would have been able to accomplish great things.

6. LadyMarissa (2639) | 3 weeks ago | I've never been rich, but I have noticed....if you're unhappy poor, there's a good chance you'll be unhappy rich. The bad habits that get us in debt will follow us into our fortune. The only difference is that we think we have plenty of money. I have read about 2 cases where people won $16 million & were broke 2 years later. This day & time $100,000 is pocket change. You've got to remember that the government is going to take atleast half of it in taxes so you're down to$50,000. I don't have a lot of money, but I do have my friends & family. I'm happy to just wake up every morning. We ALL have choices in our lives. I choose to be happy every day!!! Look at MC Hammer. He earned $5 million & was filing bankruptcy a year later. He lost everything but says he's happier now than he has ever been. Then there's Brittany Spears. She earned a small fortune & it seems NOTHING makes her happy. Once you get rich, you have to watch out for people who love you just for being you & those who love you for your money!!! There's a lot more important things in life than money!!!

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | I completely agree with you, that's why the ideal amount of money for me would be such a small sum. I don't want to be in the situation where I would either blow a ton of money on things that I didn't need and I wouldn't want to be in the situation where greed would take over my life.

7. lelin1123 (4063) | 3 weeks ago | I would need more then that only because I would want to also pay off my parents bills and my daughters bills. Not to mention payoff my mortgage and my bills. So I would say $500,000 dollars would be enough for me. I could say 1 million but that would be greedy of me. I don't need alot of money to survive in this world.

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | You are very similar to my sister-in-law when I asked her this question, only your sum is significantly lower than hers was. She also said that she would like to be able to pay off my mother's house and to make sure that her daughter's were taken care of as well as buying a house and car for her family. And like me, you don't need a lot of money to survive in the world.

| 9. tambrerocks (94) | 3 weeks ago | I would say off the top of my head $100,000,000 would make me happy. I could easily spend it on all my wants and needs. I think money is something you feel you have enough of or never feel you have enough of, no matter how much you have or not. The question is, if you got the amount you thought would make you happy would it actually make you happy or cause unhappiness?

| |
|
|
dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | This is a great question that you've posed here and also the next question that I was planning on discussing. It is very interesting to see the variance in the amount of money that people think it would take to make them happy.

10. kelly10 (154) | 3 weeks ago | I would want enough to pay any outstanding bills/debts that I and or my boyfriend have, visit everywhere we want to go on holiday, put some into a savings account, buy all the DVD's that I want, buy a holiday home somewhere abroad, update mine and my boyfriends wardrobes, treat myself to some gadgets, treat my mum and dad to a holiday and put away enough money for a years travel to work.
For this I think I would want around £250,000. This is just a very rough guess so it maybe too much or a lot, lot more.
To be honest I would be happy with enough for just a few holidays, some savings and a few pieces to add to mine and my boyfriends wardrobe.

dorannmwin (1641) | 3 weeks ago | It is so interesting to see the differences between what each person thinks is enough money to make them happy and what they would want to do with the money. Thanks so much for sharing your input.
