 Guys, have you heard about Efren Penaflorida? He is a filipino nominee for CNN hero of the year. He goes in the streets with a push cart loaded with books, pens, etc and teaches street children to read and write.

It seems that his hardwork is paying off and is being noticed by many even outside of the country. I think he deserves to win that title in CNN since his passion is something different from the rest and is unique idea that helps the poor and underprivileged children who cannot afford to educate themselves.

I am a teacher and I feel ashamed knowing there are some teachers out there whose goal is to have their salary not caring whether the students were able to understand or not while he, Efren, is out on the street teaching children using his own money and not asking for anything in return. It is not his job to teach them but he do it with a good heart. I wish everyone can see the lesson he's trying to teach us. I will cast my vote for him and whether he loses or not, he is already a hero for me.

In the case of Efren, It also shows the dismal state of education that we have in this country. Although Efren was able to fill a gap there's just no way a cart can replace what it feels for a child to wake up everyday and prepare to go to school, learn and have fun with their classmates. I hope, Efren would serve an inspiration if not a challenge to us all to make education a priority. Cheers!
