I have a new born and I keep reading different things about never wake a sleeping baby. However, do you let a sleeping baby sleep the day away? Most babies should eat every 2-3 hours. I personally am afraid to let my baby sleep for too long at a time. What do you do? Please share with me your advice.:)

When my son was a newborn I let him sleep whenever he would sleep. They will wake up and let you know when they are hungry or need to be changed. I never wanted to wake my son up when he was sleeping because I enjoyed watching him sleep so peaceful and I could get things done around the house when he slept. When they are little like that they sleep a lot and then gradually they start sleeping less and less. But you don't have to wake them up to feed them...you can feed them when they wake back up. It will be fine.

the people at the hospital made me wake my baby up every two hours to feed nim when he was just born and when i got home i did the same. he has adjusted to sleeping fine and there doesn't seem to be any problems from waking him up tho i can see there being a problem of the baby not getting enough to eat if they sleep too much.

Let the baby sleep. When they are hungry, they will wake up and demand to be fed. I know its hard, but let the baby be a baby.

babies only know two things eat and sleep, if they want to sleep let them be. I'm sure you'll experience one day that no matter how you want them to sleep they wont and this usually happens at night. So enjoy the days when they're asleep most of the time because those days are numbered LOL. Cheers!

hi gina what did your pediatrician say, anyway I would just use plain old
common sense. if baby is getting fussy he or she needs to be changed and or
fed. But do not wake up baby needlessly as he will let you know pretty soon
what he needs. it has been a very long time since Ihad to worry about a baby
but common sense usually wins the day.

If your baby will not ask for milk after 2 hours, feed him. Do not wake him up. Just put your nipple to his mouth. It's the baby's instinct to suck it.
In my part, I just make sure that he will be fed every after 2 hours. Dont disturb his sleep, let him grow. Anyway, his sleeping pattern will change in the next few months.

For me when my children were little, there was a routine, but it didn't involve waking them every so many hours 24 hours a day. I tried to make sure that I kept them awake during the daytime hours as much as possible and then at night I would let them sleep until they woke up. I believe that is a big part of the reason that both of my children slept through the night at six weeks old. By that time they were sleeping for six hour stretches during the night.
During the day I always played with them and fed them and changed them and didn't take care to make the house quiet so that they could sleep.

Hello gina2008
I went through the smae thing with my duaghter who is now 2. All she would do is sleep all the time. And whene she did wake up she would eat like a pig. I asked my mom if it was normal for her to sleep all the time and she said yes and it is ok she will let you know whene she is hungrey. She also told me that the reason why she would eat so much is becouse she wieghed 8 lbs 14 oz. at birth. So just to ease your worriesit is totally normale and safe to let your baby sleep as much as he wants. The only time I would wake my daughter up is if she was sleeping for more then 6-8 hours, then just let the baby eat has much as then want. I hope this helps you with your worries.

Hi there Gina..... Congratulations to you for your new born baby. Mine will be 2 years old this December. I never wake him up when he's asleep, i let him sleep as much as he could. He'll eventually wake up when he feels hungry.
A new born baby is always asleep. He wakes up when he is hungry, wet, uncomfortable and bothered. Waking him up while asleep would make him cranky and you will end up having to let him sleep again. If he moves a little while sleeping, you can check if he's hungry by touching his lips with your finger, if he opens his mouth, then you may feed him, that way, if he's still sleepy, he'll go back to sleep after feeding.
I was like you too when I had my first new born, I would check his tummy if he is breathing while asleep. It's because we love our babies a lot that we worry so much on things like this.

Hello Gina! Don't be scared its normal for a baby to sleep for long hours she/he will just wake up when she/he hungry, the diapers wet as your baby grow older then little by little her sleeping time will decrease just check her from time to time.
