Our Trip to the vet

United States

Well after reading some of your comments on my other post. I called the vet this morning to get Tootsie looked at. What I thought was debris or a sliver was probably some litter. However it was stuck to her paw from bodily fluids because she had a couple of large cuts between her pads. Bad enough that she has an infection starting though it was not swollen. SO she had to stay the afternoon and get the wound cleaned out and get her paw stitched up. So my wild lil lady is stuck in the kids room for 2 weeks with the fancy litter and antibiotics while her paw heels. Her brother & sister were holding a vidgil (sp?) outside the bedroom door wanting their lil sister. That was sooo sweet of them. Now the trick is to keep the kids out of that room so she can rest and heal. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I check in on her and want her to be using that paw, but I know she must be sore as I would be after such a proceedure.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat! But it's so sweet that they were missing their little sister and wanted to be able to see her! But i hope she recovers quickly, because it's sad to see your pet recovering from anything, especially when recovery isn't something they know how to handle well! In the sense that she might try to get at her stitches or hate the idea of having to be in a certain room while she recovers. But I'm also glad you took her to the vet because most people tend to brush their pet's problems off as being something insignificant when it can sometimes be something very serious that can eventually kill them. So, good for you :)

She's a bit antsy to get out of that room. And as a matter of fact has escaped this morning so I have to try and catch her again if I see her. *sigh*

I guess it's a good idea that you didn't "wait and see"! I did that once. One of my cats had a big bump on his side, he got it from fighting an outdoor cat. At first I thought nothing of it and just "waited to see" what would happen with it, figuring it would go away. But then one night it started to ooze some nasty pus. I took a towel to it to soak up the pus that was oozing from it (quite a lot of it too) and the cat bit me, apparently in pain. That's when we hopped in the car and went to the emergency vet. He got the wound clean, got some antibiotics and one of those cone collars to leave the wound alone. I think it cost me like $200. Would have been cheaper if I went to a regular vet before it popped.

Cost us $200 I didn't have yesterday as well. It wasn't oozing anything like what you described that I know of but the vet said there was some infection already started in her.

I'm glad she got the treatment she needed. I hate it when my Sherlock is in pain because it's not like he can actually tell me what is wrong.

That's the worst thing about small kids and animals they can't tell you what's wrong, just leave you clues.

I'm sorry to hear Tootsie has a cut in her paw. Rygel had a cut on his paw, but after limping for a few days he got better - tho he limped off and on when he landed on it wrong. He did favor it for a bit, but he's an amazing cat!

yea, sometimes meds will do that. my blue had some one time for some minor illness, and when he finally did go.. OMG. ..on some level,i wonder if he did that as revenge

Yeah I was figuring it was the meds. Cause it's nasty! But she's also taking her meds w/ moist cat food and they usually only eat the dry stuff. If they get the moist they usually just lick the gravey/sauce and skip the rest... so we don't even buy it for their b-day or holidays for them as a treat.

She's doing fine. The only problem I see now she didn't bm for a day or so and now it's not looking very pretty. But that could be a side effect of her meds she's on for that infection & the fact they eat dry not wet food and the meds are in wet food. I still have no idea what she did to get that cut,My old hard to say though cause we don't have a garage so many things are in the basement and unorganezed. My oldest thought she saw one of the lamps or vases or something stored downstairs perhaps was broken but I didn't see any signs of anything broken or glass. Hubby needs to get down their and reorganize it. But the Vet stitched it up she said the more she walked the more it was opening up on her.

hi snugglebunnies I am glad your Tootsie got looked at and hope'she recovers speedily. poor little cats cannot really tell us what is wrong so we have to decipher for ourselves. I know that cats raised together really do bond and look out for each other, yes I think that is so sweet too. I can just see the other two cats keeping vigil over their sick lil sister. I can well believe that must really be painful,I know when I have injured my own hand it hurt like everything. good luck.

Yes that's good that your cat got the treatment she really needed. That's adorable that her little family was waiting for her, so sweet. I have a little cat myself but fortunately he's never had that kind of an infection (thank god), which would probably really stress him out, because going to the vet for ANYTHING for Furball is the ultimate stressor. Speedy recovery for your kitty. ;)

I'm glad it's not anything fatal and at least she doesn't have any broken bones. After the wound heals, just mindful of possible infections. One of my cats had a cut on her chin and we did do what was necessary. Took her to the vet and got medication. The wound closed and we thought it was okay. Weeks later, she got sick. We noticed because she was out of balance whenever she'd jump. Then, we noticed she had fever and her chin was swelling. Initially, we thought that it was mumps but when we took her to the vet, they told us that the wound closed but she had an infection inside. There was puss inside. They had to cut open the wound and get the puss out - drain it, more like. She was better after but we kept her in a cage so that she wouldnt wander off and she'd take her medicine on time. I hope your cat gets better soon. :-) Glad to hear shes okay.
