According to some authoritative polls, more and more teachers find it is really a difficult task for them to teach patriotic lessons to their students.
You see, nowadays, most children have enjoyed a good life and they seem to turn a blind eye to patriotism. So, they have forgotten the tough past time and what they want is just to enjoy a Carefree and lighthearted life. It seems that it won’t work well to use the original heroes in the textbooks. Perhaps some different ways should be adopted.
In your opinion, is it necessary to teach patriotic lessons to our children? Do you have some experience to teach the patriotic lessons to the students? If you are a primary teacher, how do you teach patriotic lessons to your students?

i think the best way to promote them towards patriotism will be to let them watch some patriotic movies and by listening patriotic songs.
the best will be watching such movies as they are much touchable to heart and everyone gets close to their motherland and the feelings connected to our motherland.

I can’t agree with you anymore. Nowadays, most ways to teach patriotic lessons to the current students have been useless. Yes, it seems that it won’t work well to use the original heroes because they can enjoy a carefree life.
To let them watch some patriotic movies and by listening patriotic songs may be useful ways to teach them to be patriotic. In fact, perhaps the teachers should pay more attention to find more useful ways to teach patriotic lessons to the students, which is very important to the teachers, as well as thewhole country.

We have separation of church and state, but I think we should have separation of school and state instead. Truly, I believe that home is where values such as patriatism should be taught and that in school the emphasis should be on basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics. Otherwise the school becomes a tool for indoctination of a particular point of view rather than a tool for education.

I am not a teacher by profession but can share the point of it through self-nature-nurture learning in my life about the history and its related subject. The main point that must be highlighted from one history is the human attitude related to the nature that concerned in that particular history point of telling to promote its sharing value. I mean, the advantages and disadvantages. Not the story alone as a story of history.

This is one reason why genealogy is so important, no matter wether you are a family that has been in the US a long time or are a newly arrived family, by llearning your family history and the reason why they came to the US it will help you to learn to love what you and yours have gained by being Americans. This is a journey each mamber of a family can take and is so much easier how that we have the internet. If I were teaching young students I would be using a genealogy lesson aspart of their history and social studies classes. Evne newly arrived families have a history which can be of interest to others in the classes.

I always loved the civil war. There was so much conflict in that war, personal and patriotic. To teach primary students about patriotism re-enactments could be done. I think it's really important to learn about the wars. It's funny this question comes up today. Today I was watching the history channel about vietnam. I don't remember being taught about tunnels. The vets were describing them and describing their missions. We were never told anything about that. Wouldn't military leaders of today be better prepared if they were taught about strategies of yester year? Even that could have been taught. Maybe digging tunnels in the sand would have made for a fun day for the students. Hands on is usually the best way to teach history. Rhyming for date in history usually works too. I don't know how young you are suggesting. Usually this subject doesn't come up before the third grade history. It could start sooner. I think Kindergartners are learning about indians and pilgrims fighting.

To teach a patriotic lesson is a great idea. The problem is too many teachers want to teach their view of patriotic. They want to praise a specific person, or teach a specific point of view. You have to teach patriotism in it's purest form. No party affiliations, no specific patriots in mind. You can't teach a biased lesson and the majority of teachers tend to put their own political views into their teachings. College professors are the worst - they teach nothing but their own views and try to squash anyone who offers an opposing opinion. Yes I do have numerous teachers in the family - from elementary to college - so I can say this with certainty.

Hi getbrowser.. If I were a teacher for primary students.. then I would have thought them through the history of freedom fight to India.. I could have told the history in the form of story so that they will concentrate more and listen.. in that story I could have told them about freedom fighters and how they fought for motherland..
