What was your lowest cost trip to Las Vegas?   email this discussion to a friend?

It is said that these days one can travel and stay in Las Vegas for a relatively small amount of money. That is if you know the tricks of the trade so to speak. I have read that one man got a $900 a night room for only $200. What was his secret? He said he simply asked. Yes, that's right. He went on to say that in Vegas you can't be afraid to ask for deals.

Since tourism is down 4 percent this year compared to last year Las Vegas is practically giving their rooms away for free. For instance, the Excalibur hotel is running a $40 a night weeknight charge these days. That is the lowest I have ever heard for a hotel in Las Vegas.

You can go on Priceline and check for cheap fares. One guy booked a room at the Wynn Hotel for $90 a night by bidding on priceline.

You can also just walk up to the front desk and ask for a lower price instead of using the internet, just like the man I mentioned above did.

Another piece of advice given by a pit boss at the Bellagio is that the best time to get rooms is after 8 p.m. At that time all the rooms not given to high rollers are handed over to salespeople who are told to sell them cheap.

Has anyone had any experiences as mentioned above? What was the cheapest trip you ever took to Vegas and what was the method you used?

Either Southwest or AllegiantAir have the lowest fares. For a hotel, Any of the low price chains, Super 8, Motel 6, Days Inn. They have a bus that runs the lenght of the strip 24 hours a day. Not sure what the fare is, but no need to take a cab or rent a car if staying on or by the strip.

Thanks for the information. The budget hotels must be really cheap right now. The article I read and the prices I quoted were for the more expensive hotels, but still cheap considering what you get such as: jacuzzi, spa, room service, etc..........
I will assume that the bus fare is not that expensive either. Maybe I'll go in December. From your experience is that a good time to go?

No the budget hotel/motels have to cover their cost, they don't have a casino to subsidize the lodging side of the business. A month ago, I got a week night rate of $27 at the Rivera, and then the fountain view room at Planet Hollywood is $20-30 less the Bootit on line rate.

I don't like Priceline because you are at a disadvantange, if your bid price is too high, you are bind to the offer, and if it's too low, they can reject your offer. It's like Blackjack, if you take a card and busted first, it's doesn't matter what happens to the house's hand, they take your money.

Watch out for the hidden resort fee. I got a decent air/hotel package with Allegiant Air recently for about $360 for 4 nights at the Monte Carlo. Upon registration, they forced a resort fee of $10 on you. What you get is the right to use the gym (but not the showers and lockers; that's another $5), 2 small bottles of water, a USA Today (but not delivered) and all the faxes you want.

The Deuce (doubledecker bus) is something like $7 for 24 hours, so that's a relatively decent deal.

Priceline is actually not that cheap - because they take commission from whatever it is you buy from them. Kayak on the other hand will look through priceline, and other budget websites. If you really wanna go to Vegas and want it cheap - you should go during weekday - meaning from Tuesday to Thursday. Maybe not as much stuff going on - but hey, it's Las Vegas all the same. Here's another tip - MUST you really stay on the strip? If not - the surrounding hotels NOT on the strip are cheaper. And you'll probably rest better anyway since it's sort of away from all the happenings. Have fun!

Thanks for that information. Any specific budget hotel you have had luck with in the past? How about transportation? How did you get around Vegas when you went? I have used Kayak before for cheap flights and have had good experience with them. I guess now I'll try to use them for cheap hotels.
