Why does anyone think that Sperm Banks are acceptable?  

well clearly if the second is acceptable then so should the first be theoretically - however it adds another knot to what could be a tangled situation in both cases from the emotional angle. i think that the child being the biological child of one parent but not both CAN raise issues that the man probably never thought he'd have but irrational feelings are inescapable sometimes. choosing to have a child this way i think is a mistake simply because of this possibility.

anyway i completely agree that adoption is a far better solution given as you said how many children are in need of loving families. i would actually go so far as to say it is a better solution even if both parents are fertile.

Hi Tony, well the sperm banks have been around for a lot of years now and financed many a budding doctor through law school. The two examples you raise both involve a couple, in the first instance the couple have presumably discused the issue together and decided that as one half of the child will be bioligcally hers then to go ahead. I doubt very much that in the second scenario the husband is consulted. Scenario three is of course the most likely to happen, wifey goes out and gets pregnant by a different man, is never quite sure who the father is until the child spouts some giveaway trait such as bright red hair, and the husband raises someone elses biological child knowing not a thing about it.

They are also used of course by single women who don't want a man involved in the process at all so like the anonymity of the sperm bank.

The real problem appears to be that as the sperm banks were originally anonymous there may well be the nice young lawyer walking round with 20 unknown about children to his name, all now meeting up and making new babies with their unknown siblihgs.

Whether a baby's origins comes from a test tube or a uterus makes no real difference. First of all, it is my belief that all life is created by God, so if God uses a "test tube" to put a sperm and egg together, so be it.... if a pregnancy comes of it .. then it's a baby. A baby is a baby.

In Vitro fertilization is a wonderful thing for people who want to be parents, but can't on their own. Who has the right to tell a person they have to adopt, rather than experience a pregnancy on their own.. with the help of science? No one has that right.

Now, to your question about the woman in bed with another man... that is not acceptable unless the husband was consulted and agreed to it.. the party donating his sperm and his body to instill the sperm into her must also be agreeable to donating his services. It should be made legal so that nothing could be said about it later to cause problems.

I just answered the second part.. sperm banks serve a purpose. A man who finds out he has testicular cancer and may have to have his testicles removed, may decide to bank some sperm first before surgery, so that he and his wife have a shot at having children.

Sometimes women just want to be parents without a husband. She may have In Vitro fertilization to have her own family without a mate... Single fathers are doing the same thing.. they are using surrogate mothers to incubate and birth their child. Times have changed.. some may embrace the changes and others may stay in the dark ages.. it's up to them.. hopefully most people will fall somewhere in the middle and let people lives their own lives as best they can without judgment.

There is a very diffinitive difference on these methods. When going to sperm bank everything is anonymous. There is no physical contact and you don't even know who the man is who's donating. When having an affir with a guy to get pregnant there's physical contact, there's intamacy. Now you're putting it in your husband's head that he's not good enough and he loses his self worth. Not to mention sperm banks makes sure you get pregnant where as having an affair with a guy you're taking a chance that you may not get preganant.

I am understanding your situation about this topics, and
also you must know the facts that it is NOT a compulsory to have
the sperm from the sperm bank and been getting the pregnant, it is
up to you to decide whether you liked or not, and also you have thinking
that with narrow mind, but most of the American and European peoples would
never mind that because all the husbands and wife would have the possibility
to have the kids from the ex boyfriends or ex girlfriends. So this system
is very common and also it is up to you to decide whether to have the help
from the sperm bank or not. We can called this is one of the social activity.

I agree with you. There are lots of children without parents and etc, so it is actually a very noble thing when couples adopt children, even when they are fertile. It's like a good human behavior and children need love of parents, irregardless of being adopted. Good topic here.

Adoption is not only good to the couple but also to the child needing help.

HI, astonysh, before I saw you topic, I never have a deep thinking for this question. I thought it's normal whenever I heard the news of sperm bank.While I have to think it over upon your assumption . If I agree the latter is acceptable, why should I disgust the first situation? Thinking of baby,it's the same , the man is baby's biological fatherm no no difference, We think it acceptable may just because , from the feeling nad trust point, the woman doesn't betray their relationship. But the sperm bank itself starts point is beneficial to the couple who cannot have children for husband's infertility.It's simply too confused to just say good or bad. Well,may the adoption is a good way to solve the children problems, but also depends on children and couples, not a 100% satisfied solution.

See adoptation is good ......... bt all female wants to reproduce their child.......
Now as far as ur example goes.... The later part is ok because atlest the husband would be sure that his wife atleast is not physically attached with any other person other than him( that's what he will think, though it may not be true)....... and it may be hard but he will accept the baby born using sperm from the sperm bank......

Now to your adoptation thing....... Its good to adopt children but hey its there decision and if u ask me..... if needed ( but she will never need it) i will allow my wife to use sperm from sperm bank rather than adopt children..........

i think the first is completely different. first of all, you are being physical with a person outside the relationship. secondly the husband doesnt know that the man will be coming before hand.

i find sperm banks acceptable. first of all, it is always talked about between the partners before the sperm is accepted. the child will still be there child - i mean the child will be the womans and if the man loves his wif why wouldnt he love the child just as much.
i mean it was raised with his love, genetically the child is not his but it was his love that had it concieved.

and what if a single mother would like a child?

i agree with you that adoption is an excellent option but its not right for some people. it is the persons choice.
if i or my husband were infertile i would choose to adopt to give a child a life they would otherwise not have.
