When do you retire old shirts?  

It depends where You live. If you live in village or rural areas like in India, where every where we can see only sand, pollution and garbage. It will obviously decrease your life of your shirt. You You live in big city like new-york, No much pollution, no garbage, You can use your shirt for many years. It also mostly depends on quality of shirts.

I wear shirts until they have holes in them (and wear them sometimes even after that). Like you, I wear them to sleep in but sometimes I wear them around the house or to work outside in. I finally gave up on one when it ripped under the arm and then across the back where it wouldn't stay together any more!

Many old shirts hanging around here. Some for strictly sentimental reasons. I still wear my old college sweat shirt and a blue work shirt of hubbies that is so faded it's barely blue anymore.

It's safe to assume that all my old red wings shirts won't be finding retirement soon, even though some of the players they represent have.

Ones beyond redemption become dust rags. My kid didn't find a Van Halen shirt in dad's closet but he's strutting around wearing an Ozzie shirt older than he is.

I do have old shirts or pass me down shirts that are a bit older. Usually they are worn to bed, or if they are in good condition they are worn out places. However, none are Band Tees or anything like that. We still have tye dye shirts, though they haven't really been "out of style".

We go through our clothes about once a year and donate any that are not wearable anymore. A couple of old tshirts get kept for me to sleep in.

I got some old clothes too... like we get attach to them, sometime they are so confortable so we don't want to get in the garbage haha so we kept them untill they get in really bad shape loll It's sure, I don't put them like my new clothes,,but I still love them when I really want and need to put them hehe.Surely, my old clothes now old as you,but it's been many years that I got them. I remember one shirt that I kept.. I was buying that on a store when I was in end of primary and I'Ve been keep untill end of college I think..

I don't like to put and use old clothes.I mostly like designer shirts and my taste to colour and style keeps on changing.So it becomes difficult for me to go for the same shirts again and again.I mostly use them for 3 to 4 months and give them to the Thrift Store.

There's nothing wrong with having an 18 (+) year old shirt. I think it's cool. If it were an ordinary Hanes t-shirt or something, yeah it would be pretty gross, but Van Halen! That's a sentimental shirt if you ask me. I'll never throw away or donate my RANCID t-shirt that I bought from their concert.. Back in 8th grade of middle school, I think it was? It brings me back. LOL. And it's almost 10 years old. Now way I'm getting rid of that... ever. What I love about these old band shirts (NOT THE ONES YOU BUY AT HOT TOPIC!) is that there are so many stories attached to them, so many memories! My dad has a few from I think Thin Lizzy, Led Zepplin, and a few random other ones.. And it's the coolest thing in the world.

Lately, though, no. Most of my shirts are dress shirts or hoodies, and I tend to use them and wear them until..They start getting holes or tears or dinginess. Which is usually after about a year of owning them. I don't have any clothes at this point that are of *sentimental* value except a Salvation Army smock that I got when I had to volunteer back in 9th grade (court orders.. but it ended up being fun.) Sometimes when I'm cooking I'll wear it..Just for fun. LOL!
