Advent Calendars  

Oh heavens - you have reminded me of what used to be annual event leading up to Christmas when my children were small. It is a beautiful custom and the true spirit of Christmas will touch your children. Ny children used to love counting off the days. The ones that I remember had little doors that opened to a biblical saying or something religious. Great fun. Many blessings

usually, in our family, the children get the commercial chocolate advent calenders.
when i start my own family i would like to get a special advent calender tha i can refill with treats myself each year so that the calender itself becomes special.

Our advent calenders are under the bed waiting for the 1st Dec. They are the ones with choccys in, the children get very excited as they are allowed to eat chocolate before school.
What I find daft is that the choccy ones are cheaper to buy than the non choccy ones

Hi Dorann. I used to buy my 3 daughters an advent calendar each December, the type with the litte "door" to open each day. They would take turns, and were anxious to see what picture representing the holiday was behind the door and know that it they were one day closer to Christmas. :)

I always had an Advent Calendar growing up. My mom would buy one and my brother, my sister and I would take turns opening a window every night before we went to bed we would open it up and eat the candy that was inside. This year I would love to keep this tradition going so I am hoping I can find one. I know my husband is diabetic (he was diagnoses late 2008) and I will check with him to make sure he wants to do this.
