Paper:mate Pens |
| |
| I go through pens and paper like wildfire. Everywhere I go I have them and I am constantly making note about something. I decided that pens were very expensive. There are some paper:mate pens that I really like, but I thought perhaps I should just buy a package of their cheap eagle pen, I think it was $1.86 for the package of ten or twelve. Not one pen worked, for more than a scribble or two. So I took a moment to send an e-mail and let them know how unhappy I was. They asked me to mail the pens to them. I sent another email. "Thank you for your quick response. Sadly, all but one of the pens have hit the trash bin. I saved one so I could get the information correct on the email. I am not requesting any money back, I just thought you should know that they did not work. Even if I had the entire package I would not get in my four wheel drive truck and drive 12 miles in the snow to the nearest post office. The amount of time and money would simply not be worth it. But again, I appreciate your quick response. Have a great day." Today my phone rings and it is a person from Paper:mate. I should have put a fake number on there when I filled out the stuff for the first email - duh! A very polite woman said that she had read my email and really needed to talk to me. She explained how much time had already been spent by paper:mate just reading my emails (all two) and that I really owed it to the company to send them at least the one pen I had left. She also explained that I never should have thrown the others away. (Here is the amazing part, I didn't yell or even get real mean.) I had that I was sorry I had been so insensitive to the needs of the Paper:Mate company and I would be happy to take care of it. I put my one little pen (that doesn't write), and a bill for my time, gas, and consulting fee (not the reimbursement of pens) in a giant box. I used my husband's new popcorn popper and filled the rest of the box with popcorn. I drove through the snow and mailed it off today. So how did I do? | | | | | |

| | Lets hope that you get the money back for the gas and the time. I can say one thing paper mate pens are no good any more to me there never working. I can buy a brand new package of them and after the first 2 or 3 uses they are being thrown away. That company has gone down hill over the years. I would rather pay $2 for a pen and know it will work for about 6 months to a year. In fact I bought 2 the other day and I know they will last me for months. But I would never buy another paper mate again. they just don't work long enough. When you need a pen you need one, you don't want to have to go through 20 pens to find one that works. | | | | | | |

| | Part of me knows that I bought the cheap package, but I expected each pen would work at least a day. Since I didn't ask for a response of anything kind I was surprised by the email and phone call. I will go back to paying for the better pen and put this behind me. | | | |

| | Impressive is the word that comes to mind, Trensue. I do commend you for not yelling or being mean. You have done Paper:mate a great service and perhaps you will now get a free lifetime supply of non-working pens! I am guessing that very few people may have taken the time to simply let Paper:mate know that their pens don't work and not demand money or replacements back; they simply stop purchasing them so I feel you have done your duty as a consumer and they should reward you appropriately. I would be curious to find out if they do respond back to you after your effort in helping their company and whether they will reimburse you for your troubles that they created in insisting you send them the lone pen. I am the same way with pens and paper but have found that the more expensive the pen, the quicker I lose them so I try for the middle of the road type. The worst pen is the pen that splotches, I lose all capacity for sane thoughtful writing when my pen splotches. | | | | | | |

| | I have heard that hairspray in helpful in the removal of ink! I do not except to hear back, but I still glad I pointed out that is was an inconvenience to me to return their product. Living out on a mountain tends to isolate one from many things. | | | |

| | oh my gosh tensure I am still laughing good for you,it serves them right. a big company like papermate being that chintz over ineffective useless pens. that is not the way to win customers and get customer support .that is sheer stupidity on their part. oh my wonder if she ate the popcorn and whether or not you will get paid for your time, gas and consulting fee. this is so good I should use it sometime on some company that does me wrong. Ihave always wondered about paper mates cheap pens, so they do not even work. wow what a rip off. and think of school kids spending their money on those and not being able to even write with them. I used to use papermate pens but they are getting expensive for the ones that do write. Now I am really turned off of them by the way that they treated you. I thought they were a better company than that. that woman sure did nothing to enhance the companys name. | | | | | | |

| | I use their more expensive pens all the time and will probably continue to do so. However I will publish in the local paper around school time to to avoid the packaged items. Thank you for that very good idea. | | | |

| | I don't believe I will hear from them again, but I have fun writing up and bill and sending the letter and one pen. It gave me a welcome distraction from the real problems of the world. | | | |

| | Oh I hate when you buy pens and they do not work. Even if they are cheaper, they are not worth it, and I will usually avoid the cheaper made pens for the main reason you expressed here. But to ask for your Gas $$ back, etc. I doubt they will go that far. But to fill the Box up with real popcorn... that is hillarious. Thanks for sharing your story and troubles, and maybe in time Papermate will learn something from this as well. | | | | | | |

| | Dang it! I knew I should have asked people here what to say first. I did not charge them for the popcorn. Do you think that I should send another bill? | | | |

| | Well, they have a great customer response and you should have asked the lady on the phone in the first place about why you hadn't mail them back. Then if they are ready to make the charges you would have mail them.Still, you did a good job. | | | | | | |

| | You are still my hero! I LOVE this story! I think you should compile all the similar such incidents of the last year and write a book. It would be a best seller. | | | | | | |

| | I don't know how to write a book. But now that I think about it I think I got some of this from my Mom. A telemarketing company got her on the phone and first time she very politely listened for fifteen minutes and then told them she really was not interested and to please remove her from the calling list. The next day the same company called and she listened for ten minutes and then told the agent that she was very interested and she wanted to be transferred to a supervisor and tell them what a find job the agent had done and firm up the deal. They transferred Mom to a supervisor and she set the timer for ten minutes and begin to ask him questions. She got his name and direct extension. How was his day? Did he like his job? Did he have a family? Every time he tried to redirect the conversation she just kept it personal. When the timer went off she asked him if he felt like she was wasting her time. He stammered. She said, "Well, I asked to be removed from your calling list and the very next day they called again. Every time I get a call I am going to call you and we are going to visit and I am going to take up your time." The next day she went through the entire routine again. When she got to the supervisor - he was not a happy camper. That day she was truly removed from the list. If I had the time I might do the same thing. | | | |

| | This story would make a great scene in a movie! Every time you post something and this is my response, print it out and put it in a folder and in no time you will have more than enough material! | | | |
