| | To quote from one of your links.... 'Vitamins/Supplements: For comprehensive mood stabilizing support, Brain Mood blends thiamin, Niacinamide, folic acid, vitamin B-12, Pantothenic acid, plus St. John's Wort and 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan, both anti-depressants. Other supportive supplements include fish oil, melatonin for insomnia, SAMe, and vitamin B-6' Would this work on postmenopausal women too? Seems I need them all from reading the rest of the info on your links. lol Do you know of a particular 'brand' of supplement that would provide this? I'm desperate! LOL | | | | | | |

| | I currently supplement with 500mg of L-tyrosine 3 times a day, 1200mg of DHA/EPA (4 fish oil capsules) and 500 mg of Gaba and 2 GNC Women's Mega Ultra Active. I started Spencer on the same regimen (different multi vitamin) and he is a totally different child. All of his oppositional, argumentative behaviors are vastly improved, and he is eating normally and sleeping through the night. I also give him 2 Alteril every night before bed. Alteril is a natural supplement that helps with insomnia.: http://www.alteril.com/ At this point it doesn't look as though I will have to give him any other medicine for his ADHD. Word of caution: patients diagnosed with bi polar disorder shouldn't take any supplements containing Melatonin. And if you are currently using any prescription anti depressants, please talk with your doctor before taking L-tyrosine or SAMe supplements. I strongly suggest doing further research on the benefits of fish oil, Gaba and L-tyrosine. You will be utterly amazed. | | | |

| | Do you have a good supplement shoppe in your area? GNC perhaps? Make sure your fish oil contains a high enough dosage of DHA/EPA. You need at least 1200mg a day. | | | |

| | Yep we have GNC in Regina, so I will be checking it out the next time I get to the city. Thanks heaps for all the info. I will also look into this for my youngest's ODD. Sounds just the ticket for him too. Glad Spencer is responding so well. Wish I knew you when I was raising my kids. lol | | | |

| | I take Wellbutrin... I probably couldn't take some of that stuff.. but I bet I could take fish oil... I eat LOTS of broccoli.. almost every day I have at least 2 or 3 servings of it or mixed veggies with broccoli in it... I know one thing... my appetite isn't as ravenous as before... I am satisfied till my next meal... so there may be something in the broccoli and other veggies that is helping me. | | | |

| | Thanks D. Will let you know for sure. I'm excited now about taking vitamins! lol Whodathunkit! Oreo..........the Canada Food Guide says that broccoli and bananas are two of nature's most perfect foods. The vitamins and minerals in them cover all the bases apparently. I've always been a big broccoli eater, but bananas not so much. I tend to crave bananas when my magnesium levels and down and feel much better after I've had some. They stop the twitching of the small muscles around my eyes, which when they twitch is when I know my magnesium levels are dropping. | | | |

| | Foods that raise Gaba levels are * Almonds, tree nuts * Bananas * Beef Liver * Broccoli * Brown Rice * Halibut * Lentils * Oats, whole grain * Oranges, citrus fruits * Rice bran * Spinach * Walnuts * Whole wheat, whole grains. You can also supplement with Theanine as well. Wellbutrin merely does what L-tyrosine does, which is raise dopamine levels. However, it does it naturally. | | | |

| | I'd never heard of Gaba levels before, so it's good to know I've been, for the most part eating all the right things. But as I age and get dopier, I guess my dopamine levels need a boost. lol | | | |

| | I just recently learned about Gaba while researching natural therapies for Spencer. It really confirmed what I had believed about the body/mind connection. | | | |

| | Hi Sndcain36... I have been taking Wellbutrin for about 3 years now... I was given it for compulsive eating behaviors... and it helps .. but I could still get the nervous reaction to eat.. it's a crave like alcohol or cigarettes for some people... but I have been eating broccoli every day or almost every day... I might skip a day every now and then... but I noticed I am not compulsive now... I measure out my portions and count WW points, and I'm back on track again.. if I ever get complacent I end up being compulsive again. I think maybe the mixed veggies with the broccoli may be doing something to balance me out where I am not craving. | | | | | | |

| | I am happy to say I so not have any of the Gaba symptoms perhaps it is because I take fish oil with Omega-3 and Omega-6 every day. | | | | | | |

| | The benefits of fish oil are astonishing; depression and bi polar and heart disease are nearly non existent in Japan, where the average person consumes 150lbs of fish a year. However, in New Zealand, where they don't eat much fish, depression is rampant. | | | |

| | That is surprising about New Zealand. I have always eaten a lot of fish where I was growing up it was staple and I was told it was because Scotland was almost surrounded by water and had an abundance of rivers. New Zealand being an island I thought their main staples would have been fish. | | | |

| | Are these helpful to supplement with even if you don't have any concerns? I have taken fish oil before along with regular multis, but I guess I'd have to search for the others. I looked up the sleep remedy too, I have random bouts of insomnia. Would that help one to one or do you have to take it regularly for it to have an effect? | | | | | | |

| | I'm not sure, but I don't see why not...it would be a good preventative measure I'd think... | | | |
