when we had our own apartment I always had a lot of houseplants and some were flowering too. when we had our own house I had a huge flower bed as I loved growing things and flowers were my speciality. now of course I am in this retirement center so only get to look at other peoples flower beds when i take a walk out on the street. but i agree we should all try to raise as many flowers as we can.

I had a gazillion white petunias growing indoors in my normally bug-free environment (Liquid nutrient solution in an AeroGarden planter), but the white flies got 'em. I took a photo and then boiled the whole lot of 'em as it is the only way I know to kill the nasty little things. Neem oil spray works on some plants but the petunias have such sticky leaves and the oil just makes them nasty. But I still have a lot of other indoor plants that they don't like.

My cucumbers are flowering all over the place.

I for one have noticed the decline in flowers over the years. Unfortunately, it seems that more and more people are no longer interested, or willing to put in the small amount of effort, into growing themselves a beatiful and magnificent display of flowers. This is a tremendous shame because I think that the presence of flowers has the ability to add sparkle, happiness and brightness to a certain area, and inject it with new life and vibrant colour.

Currently, I am growing a set of sunflowers in my backyard, which should bloom by the time summer has rolled around next year (if we are not cursed by a perpetual winter of course). Anything that I have grown and produced myself always seems to fill me with a refreshing sense of pride and achievement, and I urge more people to do the same.

I always have a few flowers around in season, but I concentrate on growing vegetables. When I moved in here, there were a lot more flowers, but no room for a vegetable garden, so I had to take out some flowers. There are still some perennials left and I sometimes plant annuals in odd spots.

yeah, where indeed .. I see the heads drooped and bend and frosty and quite frozen colour and all exactly as it was last week. I see valmo blooming even today while the frozen leaves droop.

Great idea you have and I started a few weeks back.. bulbs on the go for in the house but seedling on the go in the laundry room ..not so much for flowers now; but, for shrublings and treelings that I really would like to add to the gardens.
The rest of some flower seeds I will start in the spring just to set them out after all danger of frost.
I take in bits from the garden in the fall right before that darn frost and I ended up with a gorgeous cyclamen just now with blooms and blooms,and geraniums reblooming and even more others.. wonderful when it is so dismal.

I love flowers! It's winter here (20 degrees this morning and won't get much warmer!) but I'm looking forward to spring. I had all the bushes in front of my house cleared away so I have a lot of space to plant flowers when the weather warms up. In the spring and summer my house is surrounded by flowers--people buy flowers for their porches, plant them in front and back of the house and in window boxes at their windows. I love the winter but really look forward to the spring and summer when I can have that riot of color and scent all around me.

I do plant flowers or seeds every spring here it is winter no chance of seeds growning now.

My flowers ar currently buried under 6 inches of snow. The good thing is, since most of them are perennials, they will be back in the spring. My flower beds go all the way around the house. I started digging a couple of new ones this fall that I will finish in the spring.

My goal is to eventually have a yard filled with beds seperated by walkways. Eliminating most of the yard and the need to mow.

They are in Holland... I'd say buy them everyone, it's beneficial to our economy. The auction house is in Aalsmeer as are a few of the TV studios in Holland... and my former crush... Okay lol, that last one is superfluous... :P
