Really just a little bit of sugar...and a little bit of salt

Has anyone ever watched these cooking shows on tv where they claim that all you have to add is just a little bit of sugar and then all you see them adding is like more than a little bit of sugar. My husband and I are always watching shows like this and notice its never a little bit of sugar. I'm always like man that is a lot of sugar, although, they are trying to make people healthier and yet they show all these delicious foods with loads of sugar. . Am I just wrong about this though, since I'm now just getting into cooking and that its not as much sugar as it looks on the tv. I've seen the same thing with salt. I mean really are they serious. What are your thoughts on this.

I did a discussion awhile back where I commented on the fact that when looking at those cooking shows I couldn't believe how much salt the chefs add to everything, and I mean everything, more than just a pinch of sugar. But yes, I have noticed chefs adding a lot of sugar to things as well. Out of habit I never add any salt to my cooking, and as far as sugar I usually always reduce the amount of sugar by almost half as I just plain don't care for things very sweet

I really don't care for things very sweet as well or very salty. It just shocks me that they put in so much in their food on these cooking shows.

i know exactly what you mean. i love to watch cooking shows. i'm usually always watching the food network. i think its ridiculous that they always do that. i tell my husband everytime when they do more than a little bit of sugar or salt. i'm usually trying to figure out well then how much am i really suppose to use in this recipe then. but i just eyeball it i guess you can say. and i usually go for a little first and then more later.

Exactly,I get confused at that point as well. Like when I am cooking I am just preferring to use measurements or whatever, because I don't want to put too much sugar or too much salt and then whatever I made just doesn't taste right.
